Former Capital Brett Leason scored his first goal as a member of the Anaheim Ducks in their 5-4 win over the San Jose Sharks on Saturday. He also tallied his first assist with the club in the game.
With San Jose up 1-0 mid-way through the first period, Leason jammed home a pass from defenseman John Klingberg to tie the game.

The Caps put four players total on waivers Sunday after making their final cuts.

The Washington Capitals have made the final cuts to their preseason roster in preparation for Wednesday night’s Home Opener against the Boston Bruins. Brett Leason, Henrik Borgstrom, Lucas Johansen, and Axel Jonsson-Fjallby have all been placed on waivers.
The news was announced by the Capitals on Sunday afternoon.

The Washington Capitals have made it quite clear for some time now that younger players are not guaranteed spots in their lineup. General manager Brian MacLellan said as much in his free agency wrap-up presser in July.
“It’s a competitive situation,” MacLellan said then. “I don’t think we’re coming in guaranteeing young guys spots in the lineup. I think, you know, you have to earn it to a certain degree.”
Head coach Peter Laviolette was asked Thursday on the first day of Training Camp about the involvement of youth in his squad this season and about his message to them for camp and the preseason.

The Washington Capitals announced their first re-signing of the offseason, Monday.
General manager Brian MacLellan announced that the team had come to terms with forward prospect Brett Leason. Leason, 23, earned a two-year, one-way contract that will pay him $1.55 million over the life of the deal. Leason will get $750,000 in 2022-23 and $800,000 in 2023-24.
Leason completed his entry-level contract this season and was set to be a restricted free agent.

The Hershey Bears squared off with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Monday night in the third and decisive game of their first-round series in this year’s Calder Cup Playoffs. The Bears forced the Game Three with a 2-1 victory on Sunday night.
With just barely over 90 seconds remaining in regulation the Bears found themselves in a two-goal hole. And then something amazing happened.

The Washington Capitals grabbed a huge Game Three victory over the Florida Panthers on Saturday after a few tweaks to a lineup that lost Game Two in Florida. One of those tweaks was Brett Leason coming out of the lineup in favor of Connor McMichael.
Now, the team has announced postgame that Leason has been returned to the AHL’s Hershey Bears. The Bears need a win Sunday to stay in the Calder Cup running or their season will end.

We here at RMNB talk behind the scenes as a team and with our friends on our DISCORD server. 95% of the time it’s to joke around or debate something incredibly stupid. One percent of the time it is me talking up longtime-Bash member, Sheena, and saying that she could beat all of us up. And then the other four percent is to debate lineup decisions.
For instance, this morning, I was super confused about why the Capitals called up Brett Leason and then got even more confused when he was tabbed to be the guy to replace Tom Wilson over Connor McMichael and Axel Jonsson-Fjallby for Game Two. Then I talked to Chris Cerullo and it kinda made sense?
I’m publishing this because I thought it might help some of our readers who are also confused about this decision so I have decided to break the fourth wall, write like a blogger (ignoring all my sports journalism instincts which I barely have already), and basically post the equivalent of a Xanga article.

Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson was injured early in Game One against the Florida Panthers and the team said the rugged winger would be a game-time decision for Game Two.
If the morning skate is any indication, Wilson playing is not looking likely. Wilson was not present at the morning skate according to The Washington Post’s Samantha Pell.
