You may remember Trotz from the time he got a mark on his head like Harry Potter. Also one time he won the Stanley Cup in 2018 with the Capitals.

Barry Trotz is making his first stop this season at his old barn on Tuesday as the New York Islanders play the Washington Capitals at Capital One Arena.
Trotz will be facing Alex Ovechkin as his famous former pupil is looking to pass Jaromir Jagr for sole possession of third on the NHL’s all-time goals list. Ovechkin has been stuck on goal no. 766 after going scoreless against Edmonton and Vancouver.

On the three-year anniversary of the Capitals swimming in fountains, former Caps’ head coach Barry Trotz advanced to the 2021 Eastern Conference Final Stanley Cup Semifinal after his New York Islanders defeated the Boston Bruins in Game Six, 6-2.

Longtime Capitals fan Vic Jain was getting fitted for his wedding tuxedo at Suit Supply in Georgetown.
And then it happened. Vic noticed a stocky gentleman that looked very, very familiar: Capitals’ 2018 Stanley Cup champion head coach Barry Trotz.
The Islanders are in town for the third and final game of the team’s miniseries against the Capitals.
The New York Islanders throttled the Washington Capitals 8-4 at Nassau Coliseum Thursday night and it ended with fireworks.
At the buzzer, there was a gentlemanly throwdown between two of the teams’ leaders, Zdeno Chara and Matt Martin.
The fight led to an awkward showdown between both teams at center ice that thankfully didn’t materalize into a brawl.

Recently, the Isles leapfrogged the Caps for first. With a win over the New Jersey Devils 3-2 on Saturday, the Islanders now lead the Capitals by two points with 40. They have a game in hand.

It took five seasons toiling in the minor leagues, but Vitek Vanecek earned his first NHL start on January 15, 2021 in a back-to-back against the Buffalo Sabres. The Czech goaltender was spectacular during the game, stopping 30 of 31 shots to earn his first career victory. “The dream came true,” Vanecek remarked afterward. In the Zoom room, he got a shaving cream pie to the face from Tom Wilson.
While Vanecek’s teammates in Washington and Hershey were especially proud in the moment, so were three old friends on Long Island: Islanders head coach Barry Trotz, assistant Lane Lambert, and goaltending coach Mitch Korn.
All three coaches worked very closely with Vanecek in Washington from 2014 until they departed for the Islanders in the summer of 2018.
The Washington Capitals were officially eliminated from the 2020 playoffs by the New York Islanders on Thursday.
After the game, the two teams continued the greatest tradition in sports, the handshake line, and Capitals players were especially warm towards their former head coach, Barry Trotz.
