The Washington Capitals eked out a win against the Boston Bruins on Sunday meaning they are the number three seed in the East and will match up with the sixth-seeded New York Islanders in the first round of the 2020 Playoffs. This will mark the Capitals’ first playoff series against their former Stanley Cup-winning bench boss, Barry Trotz.
The Islanders recently won their best-of-five Qualifying Round series against the Florida Panthers, three games to one. The Islanders outscored the Panthers 13-7 during the series and got great goaltending from former Capital Semyon Varlamov.
The Capitals and Islanders played four times against each other during the 2019-20 regular season and both teams played each other close. Each team won two games apiece and both teams scored 14 goals.
The most fun game occurred on January 18 when Alex Ovechkin completed a hat trick against the Islanders on January 18 after the Capitals were down 4-1 at the second intermission.
It’s time to hydrate, y’all.
All postseason, Trotz reminded reporters to hydrate. Nice to see him staying on-brand carrying a water bottle here. https://t.co/p1tPL9KxuF
