Thursday night, the Washington Capitals won the Stanley Cup. Many of the players and their wives took to Instagram to document the monumental moment… and the after party.

After the Caps finished taking in their victory with their loved ones on the ice of T-Mobile Arena, they headed back to the locker room to glory in the accomplishment of winning the Stanley Cup. Doing so involved a whole lot of alcohol and a whole lot of singing.
As the players threw beer and champagne into the air in celebration, they joined together in a beautifully off-key rendition of Queen’s “We Are the Champions.”

Last night, the Capitals won their first Stanley Cup in their 44-year franchise history. After finally achieving the ultimate goal after years of frustrations and disappointments, the team was obviously ready to party it up with their prize.
To do that, the ecstatic champs decided to parade the Cup through the MGM Grand Las Vegas Hotel & Casino, led by their fearless leader Alex Ovechkin clad in a pink button-up and shorts.

Alex Ovechkin became the first Russian born player to ever captain a NHL team to a Stanley Cup. It took 13 seasons, but Ovi finally did it.
The emotion Ovechkin had when finally receiving the Cup was powerful.

The Washington Capitals had already set the record for highest rated Capitals’ game during Game Four of the 2018 Stanley Cup Final with a 22.9 local rating. Last night, after clinching the Stanley Cup, they broke the record once more with a 25.2 local rating in the Washington DC area.

There were a lot of firsts that happened out on the ice on Thursday night. The Capitals won their first Stanley Cup. Lars Eller was the first Danish player, and Nathan Walker the first Australian, to receive the honor. Alex Ovechkin, meanwhile, was the first Russian-born captain to lift the trophy.
Jay Beagle, on the other hand, has the unique distinction of being the first player ever to win a trifecta of playoff trophies: the Kelly Cup (ECHL), Calder Cup (AHL), and Stanley Cup (NHL).

LAS VEGAS — On a surreal Thursday night here in the desert, the Washington Capitals won the Stanley Cup for the first time in their 44-year history. The Caps are the first major DC sports team to win a championship since 1992.

The Washington Capitals defeated the Vegas Golden Knights 4-3 in Game Five of the 2018 Stanley Cup Final and have won the series. They did it. They really did it.
The Capitals out-shot the Golden Knights 33 to 31, but were out-attempted at five-on-five 44 to 42.

A visibly emotional TJ Oshie took to the ice to celebrate the Capitals’ Stanley Cup win, taking his turn to lift the trophy above his head. But the win took on an added level of importance due to Oshie’s Dad, Tim, being in attendance.
Oshie spoke to Hockey Night in Canada’s Scott Oake, where he opened up about his Dad’s struggle with Alzheimer’s, and just what winning the Stanley Cup means for both of them.
