As the Washington Capitals celebrated their Stanley Cup win, captain Alex Ovechkin stopped to talk with Hockey Night in Canada’s Scott Oake, who broke the news that Alex and Nastya Ovechkina are expecting their first child.
“Okay, you’re married now, you and Nastya are expecting your first child, you’ve got the Stanley Cup: could life be any better than it is tonight?” Oake said on the broadcast.
“It’s unbelievable. I’m just happy,” Ovechkin said.
We first learned that Nastya was pregnant two weeks ago, before the start of the Stanley Cup Final.
RMNB reader Dan Curry sent us an image of a pregnant Nastya at Kettler Capitals Iceplex. I reached out to the Ovechkins. They confirmed the news and asked us to keep it private until after the Stanley Cup Final was over so that it wasn’t a distraction.

Congratulations from all of us here at RMNB to both Alex and Nastya.
