A visibly emotional TJ Oshie took to the ice to celebrate the Capitals’ Stanley Cup win, taking his turn to lift the trophy above his head. But the win took on an added level of importance due to Oshie’s Dad, Tim, being in attendance.
Oshie spoke to Hockey Night in Canada’s Scott Oake, where he opened up about his Dad’s struggle with Alzheimer’s, and just what winning the Stanley Cup means for both of them.
“My Dad’s here in the crowd,” Oshie said to Oake, when asked what it meant to win it in front of his Dad. “He was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and he doesn’t remember a lot of stuff, but you bet your ass he’s going to remember this one.”

NBC Sports Network also broached the subject of what Oshie winning the Cup would mean to his Dad.
“My dad, he doesn’t remember a lot of stuff these days,” Oshie said. “He remembers enough, but I’ll tell you what. He’s here tonight, I don’t know where he’s at, but this one will stick with him forever. You can guarantee that.”
Oshie, who still calls his Dad “Coach,” also got the opportunity to lift the Cup with him. An emotional moment, to top off an even more emotional night.

But perhaps the intimate hug the two shared, with Tim Oshie’s emotions on full display, is perhaps the most iconic moment of all.
