I am so proud of all of us for making it here today. It’s the first game of the regular season and the Capitals are in St. Louis to battle the recent Stanley Cup Champions. I think it’s incredibly flattering that the Blues wanted to play us for their first game back (I know that’s not how it works, but I’m going with it).
The puck will be dropping around 8 PM. You can catch all the action on NBCSN and Peter Hassett will meet you back here after the game for a recap. It’s a thrill to be back. Let’s go Caps.

What?
Another hockey season, another tweet I need someone to help me understand. Does this mean hockey players get weird face tattoos by the end of the season? I just…don’t understand this comparison and maybe I’m just too old?

Storylines
- For those of you that don’t know (I really don’t know how you miss this) but the Washington Nationals had an insane night. The postgame celebrations were the best parts and we have a post rounding up the best moments.
- Personally? My favorite celebration during the Nationals game last night was seeing Evgeny Kuznetsov in the stands doing the bird celebration.
- Having a hard time pronouncing Martin Fehérváry’s name? You are NOT ALONE!
- The massive news of the day is that Ilya Samsonov will officially be backing up Braden Holtby. Whew-weee.
- We will have to wait a bit longer to see Ilya Samsonov in action this season, he will be making his NHL debut this Friday when the Capitals face the New York Islanders.
- Evander Kane has been suspended for the first three regular season games for “physical abuse of officials”.
- Listen, the St. Louis Blues gave Laila Anderson a Stanley Cup Championship ring, and I was not prepared for the amount of emotions that I experienced while watching the clip.
- John Carlson has been named alternate captain for the Capitals :…)
- FINALLY we’re starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel for this Michal Kempny injury. He’s been cleared for contact and is likely to return next week.
- Marcus Johansson has been named the alternate captain for the Buffalo Sabres!!! So proud.
- Hockey butts are finally getting the spotlight they deserve thanks to Dylan Larkin. A real hero.
New season, new gear
Here’s a casual plug for the RMNB store. We have a whole bunch of great stuff for you to stock up on for the new season. I recommend a new tee shirt (we just dropped one) and a mug for all the good fall drinks that are gonna be poppin’ up soon. Personally? Cinnamon whiskey with hot apple cider. Is it still 90 degrees outside in the DC area? Absolutely. But, it’s October, so I’m just gonna fake it until it gets cold.
