Earlier this season, Nicklas Backstrom melted hearts when he brought his two kids, Haley and Vince, out onto the ice after practice for a short family skate.
On Monday, Lauren Oshie shared photos and videos of her kids, Lyla and Leni, taking joint skating lessons with the Backstrom kids at Medstar Capitals Iceplex, the same rink that their dads practice at.
It’s so sweet your teeth will hurt.
The two sets of siblings are similar in age, Haley Backstrom and Lyla Oshie are both five and Vince Backstrom and Leni Oshie are both close to three years old.
Lauren posted this photo of Vince and Leni holding hands. Look at those cute lil dumpling cheeks!
Leni and Lyla rocked these fuchsia jackets and pom-pom adorned figure skates.
Haley and Lyla, who were classmates in preschool, hit the ice with their instructor and learned to get their glide on, taking a few strides with their arms held out for balance.
The Capitals’ family atmosphere has been a recurring theme as the team has matured from Young Guns to Caps Dads. The families have gone on vacation together, watched playoff games together, and hung out at the rink together on days off.
In a recent article with NHL, several Caps Dads said that sharing their experiences with their kids have made them appreciate their NHL careers more.
Matt Niskanen’s son Charlie has also started to learn how to skate at Medstar Capitals Iceplex.
“He didn’t want to come off the ice,” Niskanen said of his son Charlie. “But for a kid to be able to step into an NHL dressing room and to be able to say hi to the guys and they know his name, that’s pretty cool. He’s pretty shy around everybody, but every time he comes here he warms up a little bit more and it’s a special thing that the Capitals are pretty family friendly around here.”
And who knows, maybe one of these kiddos will take after their dads in skating ability–TJ Oshie already has Olympic aspirations for Leni.
