Nicklas Backstrom skates with son and daughter after practice

Nicklas Backstrom had some fun with his family Saturday after practice at MedStar Capitals Iceplex.

The Swedish center brought his two young children, Haley and Vince, out on the ice for a quick skate. Dad even got an opportunity to do some teaching.

The session began with Papa Backstrom standing out in the middle of the ice and instructing his kids to skate to him. Haley has her bearings and does well, but young Vince falls almost instantly.

But no worries, Dad is here to help!

Vince needs to work on his skating so someday he can center Sergei Ovechkin.

Later Papa held both of his children’s arms and helped them around the ice.

Vince wore a black helmet while Haley wore a white helmet with pink trim and a very cute elephants pattern.

After the Backstroms were done on the ice, the Capitals hosted a Hockey Fights Cancer skate with children from the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
