Photos: Nationals fans go buck wild celebrating World Series win at Nats Park watch party
Rain poured down on DC Wednesday night, but weather was no deterrent for the more than 16,000 fans that packed Nationals Park. Despite the fact that the actual baseball game was being played over 1,200 miles away in Houston, drenched Nats fans stood steadfast, cheering on their team as the Nationals faced the Astros in the deciding Game Seven of the World Series.
Just like the Capitals watch parties of years past, the Nationals opened up Nats Park for free viewing parties so that fans could watch the game from the center scoreboard.
There was something electric to the atmosphere, even when the Nats went down 2-0 early in the game. When Howie Kendrick hit a home run to turn the game around, Nats Park went from electric to explosive. Even the stadium security and police officers patrolling couldn’t help but cheer.
Fans shouted and leaped into each other’s arms. As the innings went by, they waved fingers in the air to count down the number of outs left before the Nats sealed their first World Series championship in team history.
Yes, there were shark costumes. Yes, the stadium danced to Baby Shark. And yes, we have photos.
