Longtime Washington Capitals anthem singer Bob McDonald sang the national anthem ahead of Game Five of the World Series. The game was aired to tens of millions of people on Fox.
McDonald, in full uniform, had a huge smile on his face at the tail-end of his performance.
“The experience was a little ‘out of body’ but I felt a ton of love,” McDonald said. “Again, just a humongous honor.”
I added that I teared up at the end when I saw how happy he was.
“I was super emotional myself but kept it contained,” McDonald replied.
McDonald wore his Capitals championship ring during the performance.

The Nationals announced they had tabbed McDonald for the honor on Saturday in a press release.
“I was asked mid-week and assumed since the bulk of what I have done with the Nationals has been with my beloved Army chorus, that it would be an Army quartet or the chorus,” McDonald said. “I then learned they were requesting me solo and I truly could not believe it.”
McDonald has been a fan of the Nationals since their inception in 2005.
