Shane Gersich: Future Olympian for the US Men’s Gymnastics Team?

Shane Gersich was one of the Capitals’ final cuts and just missed out on being a part of the team’s Phase 4/2020 playoffs roster.

But that doesn’t mean Gersich is down on himself. The 2014 fifth-round pick is already back in the gym working out for next season and he’s even showing that he has the potential to be a two-sport star.

Gersich exhibited his gymnastics skills to his trainer at FAST Athletics in Minnesota and I’m legitimately impressed.

Capitals appear to make final cuts for 2020 playoffs roster

The Washington Capitals practiced for the final time on Saturday before taking off for the bubble in Toronto.

Capitals head coach Todd Reirden held two forwards off the ice, Hershey Bears players’ Shane Gersich and Garrett Pilon, per The Athletic’s Tarik El-Bashir. They appear to be the team’s final cuts.

How Capitals practices have changed during the coronavirus pandemic: temperature checks, social distancing, and masks

As the first week of the NHL’s Return To Play plan wraps up, it’s clear the steps the Washington Capitals are taking to keep their facility safe during the coronavirus pandemic are working. Friday, I was the first RMNB reporter to attend a practice since the coronavirus pandemic shuttered the rest of the regular season on March 12.

Personally, I was nervous to go. I have been self-isolating since March. Other than grocery store trips, I’ve stayed inside. I’ve only let my family and roommate be in my quarantine bubble.

I’m happy to report the Capitals did everything they could to make media members feel safe. There were big differences in how practices were conducted and how media members could operate than before.

Here’s Capitals players doing random chores and activities shirtless

Memorial Day weekend is here – the unofficial start of summer where temperatures rise, grills get fired up, and pools re-open.

For many quarantining Washington Capitals players, however, they haven’t waited for the change of season to do activities sans shirts.

Shane Gersich scores first career hat trick in Hershey’s 4-1 win over Bridgeport

Shane Gersich recorded his first career hat trick and his first multi-goal game ever in the AHL on Friday.

Gersich tallied two even-strength goals in the second period and an empty-netter in the third to lead the Hershey Bears to a 4-1 win over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.

Gersich now has nine goals on the season.

The Capitals have recalled Shane Gersich to replace Lars Eller in the final preseason game

On Sunday morning the Capitals recalled Shane Gersich from Hershey to play in the final preseason game against the Carolina Hurricanes. Gersich will replace Lars Eller in the lineup, but there is no need to worry.

Shane Gersich scores stunning summer league goal with Nikita Kucherov’s ‘no-move’ move

It might be just a summer league game, but Shane Gersich scored one of the most beautiful goals of his career Wednesday night.

In Da Beauty League action, Gersich did the No-Move Move made famous by NHL MVP Nikita Kucherov, sliding the puck through the goaltender’s five-hole while faking a deke.

Three Capitals players will play in Minnesota summer league

It might be the middle of July, but hockey’s back for many NHL players with Minnesota roots.

Wednesday night, the fourth year of Da Beauty League will begin with three games at Braemar Arena in Edina, Minnesota.

Three Capitals players will be participating in the league this year.

Capitals’ Director of Player Development says Axel Jonsson-Fjällby, Alex Alexeyev, and Martin Fehervary are all close to being NHL ready

Steve Richmond, the Washington Capitals’ Director of Player Development, spoke to the media on Thursday at MedStar Capitals Iceplex. He had some strong praise for several of the team’s prospects.

Richmond believes Swedish forward Axel Jonsson-Fjällby and 2018 draft picks Alex Alexeyev, and Martin Fehervary, are all close to being NHL players and could get games next season.

Capitals re-sign Shane Gersich to one-year, two-way contract

The Washington Capitals announced their first signing of the offseason Monday afternoon. The Caps re-signed Hershey Bears forward Shane Gersich to a one-year, two-way contract for next season. Gersich will make $700k at the NHL level and $115k at the AHL level.

The Capitals have also guaranteed Gersich a minimum salary of $125,000.
