Capitals rookie Shane Gersich just recorded his first NHL point to give Washington a 3-1 lead over the New Jersey Devils.
After several impressive outings, Gersich’s milestone point happened in his third career NHL game.
Barry Trotz has called Gersich a “possible candidate for the playoffs.”

The goal was due to some fantastic forechecking by the third line. Gersich took a bump pass from Chandler Stephenson before putting on his jets and finding Michal Kempny at the point. Kempny skated to a better angle and beat Cory Schneider.
Here’s another look.
The goal is Kempny’s second as a Capital.
According to the Capitals PR, Gersich became the sixth rookie player this season to tally their first NHL point.
With Gersich's point, he's the eighth rookie to record a point for the Capitals this season. He's also the sixth rookie to record his first career point this season for the Caps.
