Ryan Reaves has already created controversy and the playoffs haven’t technically started yet.
During the second period of Vegas’s exhibition game against the Arizona Coyotes, Reaves checked Nick Schmaltz directly in the head while trying to force a turnover in the corner.
The Vegas Golden Knights announced that they re-signed checking-line forward and enforcer, Ryan Reaves, to a two-year, $3.5 million extension on Monday that will keep him in Sin City through 2022. While Reaves is 33-years-old and not a big contributor on offense, he has played 151 of 153 of the Golden Knights’ games over the last two seasons.
Reaves, who loves controversy, commented both on his new deal and his personal enthusiasm for the 2019-20 season to resume in a Zoom call, Tuesday afternoon. And this quote was a doozy.
“I’m getting the itch to put my fist through someone’s face or to lay someone out,” Reaves said according to The Athletic’s Jesse Granger.

In you-can’t-make-this-stuff-up news, Vegas Golden Knights enforcer Ryan Reaves and New York Islanders forward Ross Johnston dropped the gloves in an NHL game because they wanted to impress someone famous in the crowd.
The two behemoths fought three seconds into the game immediately after the opening faceoff.
Ryan Reaves is a big hitter, a feared enforcer (except to Evander Kane), and a trash talk extraordinaire.
But Friday, the Vegas Golden Knights forward accidentally used his powers for bad when he elbowed his own teammate, Tomas Nosek, directly in the head.
The Washington Capitals beat the San Jose Sharks 5-2 at the Shark Tank on Tuesday and it got chippy and chirpy.
Evander Kane was ejected for a high hit on Radko Gudas late in the game, knocking the Capitals defenseman woozy and out of the game.
At the teams’ two benches, Joe Thornton and Tom Wilson had a conversation that was, thankfully for all of us, caught on a hot mic.

The last time the Washington Capitals and Vegas Golden Knights played was December 4, 2018. Ryan Reaves and Tom Wilson continued their long rivalry and jawed with each other several times before Reaves was ejected for nailing Wilson with a blindside hit.
After the game, Reaves made matters worse by taunting a concussed Wilson.
“I thought it was shoulder to shoulder and I didn’t think it was that late,” Reaves said. “He was just looking at his pass and ran into a lion in the jungle.”
Two days later, Reaves autographed photos of the hit for a Las Vegas memorabilia company that had the inscription He ran into a lion in the jungle.
Saturday, the Golden Knights and Capitals will play for the first time since the controversial hit and autographed photos.

Tom Wilson hasn’t played in a game since a late blindside hit from the Vegas Golden Knights’ Ryan Reaves left him with a concussion on December 4. The hit did not receive supplemental discipline from the NHL, but Reaves’s actions afterward created a furor.
In a postgame interview, Reaves said Wilson “was just looking at his pass and ran into a lion in the jungle.” Reaves then did a private autograph signing with a memorobilia company and inscribed that quote on photographs showing Wilson down on the ice injured with a concussion. The negative reaction online forced Reaves to ask to have the photos taken down.
Wilson was asked about the controversy Wednesday after practice.
