The greatest goaltender in Washington Capitals history is once again back in DC.
Sunday, Braden Holtby was at Nationals Park, watching the Nats take on the New York Mets. Holtby grew up a huge Toronto Blue Jays fan but became a big supporter of the Nationals during his time in DC — even becoming friends with several members of the team.
The Washington Nationals lost to the Philadelphia Phillies 12-6 on Tuesday, but for the team’s furry friends in the stands, the fresh air and unrelenting attention from their owners felt like a victory anyway.
Tuesday, the Nationals held their summer Pups in the Park night. Ahead of the first pitch, hundreds of dogs made their way into the stadium and filed into the stands for one of the most pawesome games of the year.

The Washington Nationals game against the San Diego Padres was stopped in the sixth inning and will not resume tonight after a shooting occurred outside of the third base gate at Nationals Park.
According to NBC 7 San Diego, four people were shot outside the left field gate on South Capital Street. Two victims were transported to the hospital and were conscious and breathing while two others walked in for “treatment of gunshot wounds.”
The DC Police Department said that “there is no ongoing threat at this time” and they are investigating the shooting.
The Washington Nationals held their first day of workouts at Nats Park on Friday a week after the MLB and MLBPA agreed on a 60-game shortened 2020 season due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Nationals players were greeted with several new additions at the ballpark.

The Washington Nationals and Michelin star chef José Andrés are partnering to turn Nationals Park into a community kitchen to help feed the hungry through World Central Kitchen. Tuesday marked the first day that the stadium re-opened during what was supposed to be the 2020 MLB season.
According to a release, Nationals Park is uniquely suited to large-scale food production and is located in the heart of an at-risk community. The Nationals worked with their landlord, Events DC, to obtain permission to have several kitchens within the ballpark available for use by World Central Kitchen.
“We didn’t have Opening Day, but I think all the Nationals fans they should be proud,” José Andrés, a DC native, said in a video. “This is like Opening Day. Today we open the stadium to feed those in need and that we all should be so proud. Thank you again, Nationals.”
Tuesday was the first day of operations and 1,000 meals were produced and distributed. Once fully ramped up, José Andrés expects his team to produce tens of thousands of meals for the hungry every day.
It’s been several weeks since we were all forced to stay at home due to the coronavirus outbreak. Since then, I’ve learned that I need new challenges to stay both happy and sane. For instance, there is just so much CNN, Netflix, Disney Plus, and hockey blogging my brain can absorb before my eyes get weary and I start getting this rotting feeling in my skull.
Desperately in need of a new activity, I have turned to stadium models. I’m not sure if this will entertain or infuriate me, but I’m all in.

Rain poured down on DC Wednesday night, but weather was no deterrent for the more than 16,000 fans that packed Nationals Park. Despite the fact that the actual baseball game was being played over 1,200 miles away in Houston, drenched Nats fans stood steadfast, cheering on their team as the Nationals faced the Astros in the deciding Game Seven of the World Series.
Just like the Capitals watch parties of years past, the Nationals opened up Nats Park for free viewing parties so that fans could watch the game from the center scoreboard.
There was something electric to the atmosphere, even when the Nats went down 2-0 early in the game. When Howie Kendrick hit a home run to turn the game around, Nats Park went from electric to explosive. Even the stadium security and police officers patrolling couldn’t help but cheer.
Fans shouted and leaped into each other’s arms. As the innings went by, they waved fingers in the air to count down the number of outs left before the Nats sealed their first World Series championship in team history.
Yes, there were shark costumes. Yes, the stadium danced to Baby Shark. And yes, we have photos.

The 2019 Stanley Cup Champion St. Louis Blues will be visiting the White House on Tuesday. After an early loss to the New York Islanders on Monday, the Blues hopped on a plane to Washington DC and attended Game Three of the National League Championship Series game between the Cardinals and the Nationals.
The Nationals went on to win 8-1 and took a commanding 3-0 series lead.
