Caps win a slow burning, passionate game. Luckily, it was worth the wait.
The only good thing about the first period was that I got a pint of Milk & Cookies from Ben and Jerry’s. In the first minute of the first period, Andre Burakovsky put a solid ping off the post, giving us a ping in our hearts full of hope. Tom Wilson was later boarded by Danny DeKeyser, giving the Capitals a five minute power play. The boys were unsuccessful in scoring. *heavy sigh*. Alas, with 30 seconds left in the power play, Justin Williams was sent to the box for hooking and nobody did anything. The first period was a buncha meh especially since the list of our players that went to the locker room included: Oshie, Wilson, Eller, Burakovsky. Wilson returned. The Caps ended up leading 10 shots on goal to 5.
The Caps announced Eller and Oshie would not be returning and that Burakovsky was doubtful, so of course, we began the second period with low morale. The time came and the time went as the score remained 0-0 and the shots on goal were switched around.
Finally, with 5:11 left in the entire game, our boy Beags saved us all with his 4th goal of the season and his first career NHL point against the Detroit Red Wings. The game finished at 1-0 and Braden Holtby gets his first shutout of the season.
