Alex Ovechkin scores 48th goal of season after dangling puck through Sabres player’s skates

The Washington Capitals were listless through the first two periods against the Buffalo Sabres, one of the NHL’s worst teams.

But like he has done many, many times before, Alex Ovechkin came to the rescue with one of the most amazing goals you’ll ever see.

Ovi’s 48th goal ended Linus Ullmark’s shutout bid and allowed him to keep pace with David Pastrnak who scored Saturday against the Lightning.

Alex Ovechkin is now three goals away from 50 after scoring twice against the Rangers

The Washington Capitals had another deflating loss – this time losing to the New York Rangers 6-5 in overtime after Mika Zibanejad scored five goals.

Lost in the shuffle was another clutch performance by Alex Ovechkin who nearly scored the Caps out of trouble.

Ovechkin first tallied late in the third period to tie the game at 4 before scoring again with 43 seconds left to send it to overtime, giving the Capitals a standing point they did not deserve.

The goals were Ovechkin’s 704th and 705th of his Hall of Fame career.

Alex Ovechkin scores 702nd and 703rd career goals in first period, Ilya Kovalchuk registers first point as a Capital

Alex Ovechkin knows he’s got to make up some ground to catch up to David Pastrnak for the league lead in goals. Luckily, the NHL schedule-makers brought him to Minnesota on Sunday night.

Ovechkin has two goals in the first period alone.

Tuesday, after being honored on the ice for scoring 700 goals, Ovechkin scored his 701st career goal in his first shift of the game.

Alex Ovechkin becomes eighth player in NHL history to score 700 career goals

Alex Ovechkin has scored his 700th goal, becoming the eighth player in NHL history to reach the mark. Ovechkin scored the historic tally on New Jersey Devils goaltender MacKenzie Blackwood. Evgeny Kuznetsov and Nick Jensen recorded the assists.

After Ovi scored, he kissed his glove (in honor of his late brother Sergei), went to one knee, and pumped both of his arms to celebrate.

The Capitals emptied the bench and mobbed Ovechkin at center ice as Devils fans at Prudential Center rose to their feet to salute the Russian machine’s accomplishment.

Alex Ovechkin is now one goal shy of 700. With a set play off an offensive-zone faceoff, Ovechkin scored goal 699 against Carey Price.

(Well, he hasn’t scored all 699 against Price, just 22, but you know what we meant.)

Alex Ovechkin scores natural hat trick in third period to beat Los Angeles Kings literally by himself

We should have known when Alex Ovechkin injured Capitals’ star rookie goaltender Ilya Samsonov during the morning skate. The Great 8’s shot was heavy and hard on this day and it translated into the game.

In the latter minutes of the third period with the Capitals down 2-1, Ovechkin took over. He scored goals on consecutive shifts to first tie and then give the Caps the lead. Three minutes and 14 seconds later, he added an empty-net goal from way downtown for his 27th career hat trick and his third in six games.

With empty-netter, Alex Ovechkin becomes 8th greatest of all-time as fans in Ottawa chant ‘Ovi! Ovi!’

Alex Ovechkin scored goals 694 and 695 on Friday night in Ottawa. That second goal, an empty-netter in the final minute, put Ovi one goal above Mark Messier and locked him into eighth place in the all-time goal-scoring list.

Alex Ovechkin scores #694, ties Mark Messier, has ten goals in five games, is good

Alex Ovechkin is positively on fire. Taking a pass from Nicklas Backstrom, Ovechkin handily beat Marcus Hogberg to inch a bit closer to a yet another historical milestone.

This time, Ovechkin pulls up even with the NHL legend, Mark Messier.
