Less than one period into the new season, Alex Ovechkin is already on the scoreboard. Ovechkin scored career goal number 659 with some fancy moves against the Blues defense.
John Carlson started the play with a pass to Ovechkin out wide. Ovechkin deftly moved past Blues defender Jay Bouwmeester, who looked stunned. Now in the slot and amidst traffic, Ovechkin released a quick wrist shot to beat Jordan Binnington, delivering Washington their first goal of the season.
(And just in time, since they kinda handed two goals to the Blues early on.)
So if you’ve got an Ovechkin tally going, mark one right now. Many, many more to come.
