It’s not everyday that you see Tom Wilson meet his match in a fight, but that totally happened in the third period of the Canucks’ 6-2 shellacking of the Caps Thursday night.
Wilson, wanting to avenge Erik Gudbranson for injuring Brett Connolly, got put in a side headlock and got his helmet punched off his head.
Christian Djoos is starting to become popular among fans, but there might be someone on the Capitals bench who’s feeling the Djoos more.
Djoos’ former defense partner in Hershey Madison Bowey, gave the Swedish defenseman a congratulatory back massage after Djoos scored his second career goal. Bowey couldn’t keep the smile off his face as he looked up at the highlights on the jumbotron.

The Capitals have had only one goalscorer on their defense this season, but he’s scored again tonight. With moves you might not expected from a 7th round draft pick rookie defenseman, Christian Djoos got the Caps on the scoreboard late in the second of a miserable game.

Friday night, Evgeny Kuznetsov became the first Capitals player ever to record 10 assists in the team’s first five games. The very next night, Kuznetsov made some more history.
After collecting another apple on a Jakub Vrana goal, Kuzy became the first NHL player since 2012 to record 11 assists in his team’s first six games. The person he tied was none other than potential Hall of Famer Joe Thornton.
Nate Schmidt played in the Vegas Golden Knights NHL debut Friday and he made some history in the process.
The former Capitals defenseman earned the primary assist on the franchise’s first goal ever, a third period tally by James Neal.
The Washington Capitals found themselves trailing the Ottawa Senators early, after a Chris Wideman seeing-eye puck found its way past Braden Holtby. But a minute and forty-two seconds later, the Capitals tied it up.
Brett Connolly had the honors.
Monday, during a KHL game featuring Amur Khabarovsk and Ak Bars Kazan, defenseman Pavel Turbin scored a once-in-a-lifetime goal. With just over 11 minutes remaining in the game, Turbin took a pot shot from his own end towards the Ak Bars goal.
And… it went in.

Thursday night during Game Five of the Stanley Cup Final, Sidney Crosby got his revenge on PK Subban after #mouthwashgate. He also threw a Gatorade bottle at a Preds player.
During both examples of poor sportsmanship, Crosby was basically given a free pass by NHL officials. Crosby was whistled for matching minors for holding on the Subban melee while he completely avoided a bench minor for the bottle toss.
PITTSBURGH — The Nashville Predators and Pittsburgh Penguins opened the Stanley Cup Final with a rather dull affair on Monday night in Game One. Despite eight total goals and a three goal comeback by the Preds, there were just 38 shots on goal in the contest with Pens going 37 minutes without one. There was, however, one thrilling moment: when a Predators fan threw a catfish onto the ice at PPG Paints Arena.
Catfish hurling as become a tradition in Nashville, inspired by the octopi tossing in Detroit at Red Wings games. But this fan, Jacob Waddell of Nolesville, Tennessee, reached new heights of turning sea creatures into nasty airborne projectiles.

Washington Capitals center Evgeny Kuznetsov just scored one of the biggest goals of his international career.
Late in the second period, Kuznetsov was the benefactor of a beautiful passing play, putting the Russian national team up 1-0 over rival Team Canada.
