John Wall posted a goodbye letter on Thursday to the only city he’s known since being drafted first overall in 2010.
The Washington Wizards traded Wall and a first-round pick to the Houston Rockets on Wednesday night for nine-time All-Star and 2017 league MVP Russell Westbrook.
Washington Wizards and Washington Mystics players participated in a Juneteenth march Friday morning spanning Capital One Arena to the Martin Luther King, Jr, Memorial. Wearing Black Lives Matter shirts and holding a Together We Stand banner, the players, including John Wall and Natasha Cloud, chanted things like No justice. No peace. No racist police. as a throng of supporters marched behind them.
Before the march began, the Wizards’ Bradley Beal, the team’s superstar shooting guard, took a mic and shared a scary interaction he had with DC police where he was racially profiled.

When John Wall arrived at the Dave & Buster’s in Capitol Heights, Maryland, he was instantly swarmed by a sea of kids clamoring to take his picture and get a selfie. Like the Pied Piper, the kids followed Wall from game to game as the Washington Wizards star played ski ball, a football game, and yes, even some basketball.
The 500 kids from local schools, ranging from kindergarten to 12th grade, were the recipients of the John Wall Family Foundation’s sixth annual back to school event. In addition to spending Saturday morning with Wall at the Dave & Busters, the kids also received Adidas backpacks filled with school supplies to get ready for the coming school year.

Game One of the Washington Capitals-Carolina Hurricanes first-round series was a star-studded affair.
Seemingly all of the biggest sports stars in DC came out to support the Caps as they try to repeat as Stanley Cup champions.

After getting molly-whopped by the Indianapolis Colts during their home opener, the Washington Redskins turned out an impassioned performance against the Green Bay Packers, defeating future Hall of Famer Aaron Rogers 31-17 at a soggy FedEx Field.
Much like the week before, Capitals players were in attendance. But this time they got to see a thrilling win and hang out with Washington Wizards superstar John Wall.
Brobeans Tom Wilson and Andre Burakovsky took in the game in a suite along with Devante Smith-Pelly and John Carlson.

I had never really been a hoops fan before this year. Sure, I knew who LeBron James and Kobe Bryant and Diana Taurasi were, I liked March Madness and made brackets to compete against coworkers, and by nature of attending graduate school had to know enough about basketball to write about it. The first basketball game I attended in person was a Washington Wizards game against the Atlanta Hawks as an assignment for a sportswriting class this year.
After graduating from UMD in May, I got an opportunity to cover basketball in Israel. This was an all-expenses-paid trip funded by a donor who wanted coverage of a tournament, and we had full editorial control. Ball was life for two weeks, we were the only reporters there, and it was the experience of a lifetime.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Thursday night at Capital One Arena, Alex Ovechkin was honored pregame for playing in his 1,000th career game. Already scoring 600 career goals and tallying over 500 assists this season, Ovechkin reached the one thousand game plateau earlier in the week, April 1, against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Due to traffic and long lines entering the building, Capital One Arena was only approximately three quarters full of fans during the ceremony, but those who made it inside, were deafening in salute of the franchise’s greatest player of all-time.

They are doing so to help create more room in Texas shelters for lost or displaced pets.
Thursday, news surfaced that Washington Wizards superstars John Wall and Bradley Beal rallied their teammates and made a $250,000 donation to help relief efforts for Hurricane Harvey. That, in turn, has inspired several other people in the Monumental family to donate.
