The Dallas Stars played with an absurd amount of injuries during their Stanley Cup Final run

Coming into the 24-team playoff, many players suggested that the NHL’s three-month shutdown due to the coronavirus pandemic could lead to a lot of injuries when the league started back up again.

The Dallas Stars are one of those case stories.

On Thursday, Stars general manager Jim Nill spoke to the media and revealed 13 different players were injured during the team’s Stanley Cup Final run where they came two games short of winning it all.

The weirdest part of the bubble was living with rival teams in the same hotels

ESPN’s Greg Wyshynski and Emily Kaplan published a must-read story about the NHL bubble experience on Tuesday. And it’s remarkable because it features rare candor from players. The article focused on how difficult living in the bubble was and how the NHL under-delivered on the experience.

The weirdest part of the bubble, according to players, was living in the same hotels as their opponents.

The Stanley Cup is currently quarantining in Edmonton

In another sign of the times, the Stanley Cup and its keeper, Philip Pritchard, are currently under quarantine in Edmonton before entering the NHL’s bubble.

Pritchard revealed the news on Friday as he documented his trip to the fourth largest city in Canada. The NHL’s Conference Finals are currently being played nearby at Rogers Place.

The Athletic’s Michael Russo says the Capitals turned their bubble experience into a vacation: ‘They had no interest in being there’

Longtime Minnesota Wild beat writer Michael Russo had some harsh words for the Washington Capitals on the latest episode of his podcast The Russo Hockey Show that was published Thursday.

Russo, who writes for The Athletic and also contributes to Fox Sports North, said that the Capitals did not take their bubble experience seriously during the 2020 playoffs.

Ryan Reaves suspended one game for head shot on Tyler Motte

Just in from DoPS: the Vegas Golden Knights will be without Ryan Reaves for one game. Following his hearing with the NHL department of player safety on Saturday, the Knights forward will miss Game 1 his team’s conference final series with the Dallas Stars.

Andre Burakovsky, who is our son, scored a big big goal in a big big game like the big big boy that he is

Colorado Avalanche golden boy Andre Burakovsky is having quite the postseason. On Friday, with the Avs facing elimination, Burakovsky just scored the go-ahead goal.

And it was all him.

NHL announces fifth-straight week of no positive COVID-19 tests inside bubble

The NHL announced on Monday that it has had no positive COVID-19 tets for the fifth-straight week inside the bubble.

There were 0 positive cases in 2,814 COVID-19 tests run.

NHL postpones two days of playoff games due to police brutality and systemic racism after inaction the night before

The NHL postponed its playoff games on Thursday and Friday after the police shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wisconsin, sparked outrage and Black Lives Matter protests across the country. Blake was shot seven times in the back by police in front of his own children.

Wednesday night, the Milwaukee Bucks started a movement, and refused to play Game Five of its first-round series against the Orlando Magic due to the shooting. Soon after, the NBA postponed games between the Houston Rockets and Oklahoma City Thunder and the Los Angeles Lakers and Portland Trail Blazers. Other leagues followed hours later. Three WNBA games (including your Washington Mystics), five Major League Soccer games, and three Major Baseball games were called off in solidarity with the Bucks. Many NFL teams also canceled practices.

The NHL, which consists of only 29 active Black players according to Wikipedia, played its games as scheduled. The league made a course correction nearly 24 hours later, but according to the Hockey Diversity Alliance, the decision was sparked by several players still playing who reached out asking for advice on what to do.

Gabriel Landeskog gave Cale Makar an old-school speed boost

Late in the second period of Saturday’s Stars-Avs game, Colorado skaters Gabriel Landeskog and Cale Makar were desperately back-checking to catch Tyler Seguin. Landeskog wasn’t going to make it in time, so he made a move we don’t see much in the today’s NHL.

Avs goalie Philipp Grubauer got hurt

Game 1 has been a catastrophe for the Colorado Avalanche. The Dallas Stars, on the strength of their productive first line, put up three goals in the first period, and then, early in the second period, goalie Philipp Grubauer got hurt.

It’s not clear exactly what happened, except that it was bad.
