TJ Oshie is a character, especially during warmups. From his butt taps to his expletive-filled screams with Alex Ovechkin, the Osh Babe brings the weird before every game.
Tuesday, Oshie continued his superstition of tossing pucks to fans despite there being no actual fans at games due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Last night, the Washington Capitals debuted their new third jerseys against the New York Islanders but fans quickly realized it could bring some unwanted taunting from rival fans.
After first noticing the Capitals’ W-crested alternates, Ottawa Senators fan “The Senagoth” remarked on Twitter that “Lmao I can already see people photoshopping an L on the jersey whenever they lose.”

A couple of children stacked upon each other’s shoulders dressed up in weird blue jerseys, called themselves the Washington Capitals, and then beat the New York Islanders 3-2…in regulation!
The walking wounded Caps outshot the Isles 37 to 34 and out-attempted them at five-on-five 65 to 47.

The Washington Capitals are integrating a new coach, a new system, and a bunch of new players. Last week, they lost four of their best players, including their future Hockey Hall of Fame winger, Alex Ovechkin, to COVID protocol. The injury bug has also claimed two centers (Nicklas Backstrom and Lars Eller) their other best winger (Tom Wilson). They are already without Michal Kempny and Henrik Lundqvist to season-ending injuries. And, oh yeah, some guy named Michael Sgarbossa was their fourth-line center tonight.
Regardless of all these issues, the Cardiac Caps keep not losing in regulation and also sometimes winning. The Capitals have collected standings points in every game this season – a seven-game streak – and are 4-0-3. With their thrilling, last-minute win against the Islanders, the Capitals were sprung into first place in the NHL.

Everything was going wrong for the Caps. Before Tuesday’s game against the Islanders, there were four players out due to COVID (and COVID-related stupidity) and another out with a lower-body injury. During the game, the Caps lost two centers to subsequent injuries.
It was a disaster game, until all of a sudden it wasn’t.

The Washington Capitals lost their top two remaining centers in the third period Tuesday against the New York Islanders. The Capitals are already playing without Evgeny Kuznetsov, who is on the NHL’s COVID unavailability list.
Both Backstrom and Eller suffered apparent head injuries.

A team calling themselves the Washington Capitals, but who lacked most familiar Caps players and who were obviously wearing the wrong uniform, played against the New York Islanders on Tuesday night.
The Caps took an early lead based on — and get this — a power-play goal from John Carlson. That lead vanished four minutes later as Noah Dobson got a shot through traffic to beat Vitek Vanecek, whose name I just spelled right.
The second period went as all second periods go for Washington: poorly. Zdeno Chara fed the puck to Mat Barzal, whom you might recall is on a different team, to give the Isles the lead. Daniel Sprong scored his first goal as a Cap to knot the score 2-2 after two periods.
And then, in the final minute of regulation, Justin Schultz took a great pass from Garnet Hathaway to score the game-winning goal.
Caps win! In regulation!

The Washington Capitals wore their new navy blue third jerseys for the first time Tuesday against the New York Islanders. The alternates are inspired by the Capitals’ 2015 Winter Classic jersey (the W crest) and 2018 Stadium Series jersey (stripes and colors). The Capitals will wear these third jerseys seven different times this season and will keep them in their repertoire for the next three seasons.
The Capitals posted a bunch of photos and video from warmups and boy did they look fantastic out on the ice.

The Washington Capitals will be without five of its star players again tonight against the New York Islanders.
Tom Wilson, who has a lower-body injury, joined Alex Ovechkin, Evgeny Kuznetsov, Dmitry Orlov, and Ilya Samsonov out of the lineup.
The lines, accordingly, were wacky.
The Washington Capitals have made several late roster moves this evening which could mean Tom Wilson is not ready to return to game action quite yet.
Shortly before 6 PM, the Capitals recalled Daniel Carr and Michael Sgarbossa from their taxi squad to their active roster. Connor McMichael and Brian Pinho were sent down to the team’s taxi squad.
