The New York Rangers have found a new home for longtime key forward Chris Kreider on Thursday.

Kreider is headed west, joining former Rangers captain Jacob Trouba on the Anaheim Ducks. In return, the Rangers have added forward prospect Carey Terrance and a fourth-round draft pick. Anaheim is also sending a third-round pick to New York.

TSN’s Pierre LeBrun was the first to report the full details of the trade.

The Ducks will take on the final two years of Kreider’s contract, which pays him $6.5 million against the salary cap. Kreider has a 15-team no-trade list, but was reportedly involved in the negotiations, so his waiving it was not an issue for the Rangers.

Kreider, 34, has played his entire 13-year career with the Rangers, who drafted him in the first round in 2009. After three straight 30-goal seasons, Kreider had a tough 2024-25 campaign, recording 30 points (22g, 8a) in 68 games.

Terrance, an Akwesasne, New York native, is a Ducks 2023 second-round pick. He has played the last four seasons with the OHL’s Erie Otters, recording 39 points (20g, 19a) in 45 games last year.

The Rangers finished fifth in the Metropolitan Division, failing to qualify for the playoffs. Head coach Peter Laviolette was fired soon after the culmination of the regular season, and former Pittsburgh Penguins bench boss Mike Sullivan was hired a few weeks later.
