Hayley Scamurra, the daughter of former Washington Capitals’ defenseman Peter Scamurra, opted to spend her day with the Walter Cup in Annapolis, MD.
Scamurra shared photos of the celebration on her Instagram.
“I honestly just shared it with family and friends,” Scamurra told RMNB. “It was great being able to show off Walter to them.”
The small, family event included her father, whom she credits with her love of the sport. Her mom also attended, along with her brothers, nephews (who were especially excited), aunts, uncles, and some cousins. Her gold medal from Team USA’s 2026 Olympic victory in Milan-Cortina was also on display for the special day.
“It was very surreal having this incredible trophy that we worked so hard to win to share with everyone,” Scamurra said. “I got to relive that amazing playoff run with everyone.”
Afterward, she took the Cup to The Beast Bus — her boyfriend’s outdoor gym in Crofton, MD, where she both trains and coaches younger athletes. She showed it off to some of the kids and families she mentors, giving the girls in attendance a high honor to aspire towards.
“For young female athletes, it’s a significant professional trophy that they can aspire to get,” she said, “just like the boys having the Stanley Cup to look up to.”
Scamurra, who recently signed with expansion team PWHL Las Vegas, hoisted the Walter Cup in May with the Montreal Victoire. Last season, she recorded eight goals and 16 points in 30 regular-season games before adding two goals and four points in nine playoff appearances.
Since her first Walter Cup Championship, Scamurra has been busy all over North America, attending and hosting events. She has attended a Washington Mystics game alongside Maryland native Lacey Eden, showed off her hardware at a Buffalo Bills practice, attended Flavor Flav’s SHE Weekend in Vegas, and attended the EPSYs with her Olympic teammates.
She also hosted multiple clinics alongside her dad in the same rink she grew up playing in.
Scamurra and her dad coached local girls in their Hometown Hockey Clinics with Scamurra Hockey, offering mentorship and a family fun skate in addition to on-ice drills and skill work. Promotional material for the event included childhood photos of her with her dad, and discussed how his coaching made her the player she is.
Peter Scamurra played 132 games with Washington from 1975 through 1979, recording 33 points (8g, 25a) after being drafted by the team in the first round of the 1975 NHL Draft.
Additionally, Scamurra has spent time in her new home city, Las Vegas, doing promotional material alongside new teammates. In Las Vegas, Scamurra will skate alongside Eden and play for head coach Kim Weiss, a Potomac, MD native. Team USA teammate Tessa Janecke also joined the team after being drafted by Vegas third overall in the 2026 PWHL Draft.
