The Washington Capitals saw two new players rejoin their informal skates on Wednesday.
Ivan Miroshnichenko and Bogdan Trineyev both returned from Russia and took the ice with their Caps teammates in the morning.
Miroshnichenko skated with the main NHL roster, while Trineyev took part in a separate skate with other prospects, including Lynden Lakovic, Andrew Cristall, and Ryan Chesley.

Both Miroshnichenko and Trineyev are facing an important training camp, as neither is waiver-exempt, meaning that if they do not make the Capitals this fall, they will be placed on waivers in order to send them to the AHL’s Hershey Bears. And the Capitals added heavily to their forward group this past summer, making the possibility of the two Russians being placed on waivers even higher.
Miroshnichenko, unlike Trineyev, is facing the prospect of being plucked off waivers by another NHL team for the first time in his young career. The 2022 first-round pick is no longer on his entry-level contract with the Washington Capitals after signing a two-year, $1.85 million extension last October.
The 22-year-old winger played in 13 games for head coach Spencer Carbery this past season, recording 3 points (2g, 1a). Over the past three campaigns, he has appeared in 52 NHL career games, notching 13 points (5g, 8a).
Trineyev, who made his NHL debut last season, has faced waivers before, clearing them after being cut from the Capitals last year. Like Miroshnichenko, he signed a two-year extension with the Capitals during the 2025-26 campaign.
The 24-year-old forward spent the vast majority of last year back in the AHL with the Bears, becoming one of the most important players on the club’s roster. He notched 45 points (17g, 28a) in 62 games for Hershey and added six points (3g, 3a) in six playoff games.
