The Carolina Hurricanes lost a part of their bottom-six forward group in Tuesday night’s Game 1 against the Washington Capitals.
Mark Jankowski, who lined up as the team’s fourth-line center, suffered an undisclosed injury in Carolina’s 2-1 victory. The 30-year-old forward skated just 6:16 of ice time in the win, taking his last shift with 4:42 remaining in the second period.
He fired two shots on goal and threw one hit.
Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind’Amour did not provide an update on Jankowski postgame, but was not too worried about his status.
“I don’t think it’s too serious, but enough that he couldn’t play,” Brind’Amour said.
The Hurricanes acquired Jankowski at the trade deadline from the Nashville Predators. In 19 regular-season games, the former first-round pick of the Calgary Flames recorded eight points, all goals. He has played in just three of Carolina’s six playoff games.
Game 2 between the Hurricanes and Capitals is set for Thursday night at Capital One Arena.
