The Lindgren Bowl between Capitals goaltender Charlie Lindgren and his brother Ryan Lindgren won’t be held again this season. The New York Rangers dealt the younger Lindgren, a defenseman, out west to the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday afternoon.

Lindgren will join forward Jimmy Vesey and the contract rights to college defender Hank Kempf on the Avalanche with Colorado sending forward Juuso Parssinen, defenseman Calvin de Haan, and two draft picks back in the other direction.

The two draft picks are conditional, with the second-round pick being whichever is the better of the two picks from the Carolina Hurricanes or the Avalanche and the fourth-round selection being the best between the Avalanche and the Vancouver Canucks. New York now has eight draft selections in the 2025 NHL Draft.

Lindgren has spent all eight seasons of his professional career in the Rangers organization. He was initially acquired by New York from the Boston Bruins in a trade that saw Rick Nash end up with the Bruins. Over the past seven seasons, Lindgren has appeared in 387 games for the Rangers, recording 99 points (12g, 87a).

With his brother now out west, Charlie Lindgren won’t have to worry about getting scored on by him at least for the rest of this season. The Capitals and Avalanche have already wrapped up their season set.

“If he scored on me, that would probably be the death of me, I think,” Lindgren said last year. “That’s not a joke. That would torment me.”

Vesey, the other primary portion of the trade going to Colorado, has just six points (4g, 2a) in 33 games this season. Kempf, an unsigned seventh-round pick of the Rangers in the 2021 NHL Draft, has seven points (2g, 5a) in 28 games during his senior season for Cornell University.

Parssinen has been traded for the second time this season after the Avalanche acquired him from the Nashville Predators in December. The Finnish forward has 11 points (4g, 7a) in 37 games this year.

De Haan signed a one-year deal with Colorado in free agency this past summer. The veteran blueliner had seven points (7a) in 44 games for the Avalanche.

After playing 59 games, the Rangers are 29-26-4 and four points behind the Columbus Blue Jackets for the second wild card playoff position in the Eastern Conference. The Avalanche, 35-24-2, hold the first wild card spot in the Western Conference and are behind the Minnesota Wild for third in the Central Division based on just points percentage.
