Anthony Mantha’s 2024-25 season come to a premature end.
The Calgary Flames announced that the 30-year-old forward will require surgery on an ACL injury and be out for the remainder of the year.
Mantha signed a one-year, $3.5 million contract with the Flames as a free agent in July. The big winger recorded a Gordie Howe hat trick in his first game with Calgary and had seven points (4g, 3a) in 13 games until the knee issue forced him out of the lineup.

Mantha suffered the season-ending blow in a game against the Montreal Canadiens on November 5. After playing a pass behind Montreal’s net, Mantha was hit by Canadiens forward Emil Heineman. After clanging his leg off the boards, Mantha fell awkwardly to the ice.
He did not return to the game, skating just 5:06 of ice time in Calgary’s 3-2 overtime win. Two days later, the Flames placed him on injured reserve.
Mantha signed with the Flames after spending the 2023-24 campaign with the Washington Capitals and Vegas Golden Knights. He bounced back from a disappointing 2022-23 season to score 20 goals for the first time since 2018-19 when he was a member of the Detroit Red Wings.
The Longueuil, Quebec native has struggled with injury throughout his 10-year NHL career. He has never played an entire 82-game season, averaging 54 games a season coming into this year.
Update (11/14): Mantha posted on his Instagram that his ACL surgery was successful and he’s now on the path to recovery.
