Two years ago today, the Washington Capitals held their Stanley Cup Championship Parade

Two years ago today, nearly a million Capitals and DC Sports fans gathered along Constitution Avenue and on the National Mall to witness the Capitals’ Stanley Cup Championship Parade and Rally. It was sloppy.

The celebration was the epic conclusion to the Capitals’ magical run during the 2018 Playoffs from eliminating the Pittsburgh Penguins in the second round and winning the Stanley Cup a month later to doing Cup Stands and swimming drunkenly in fountains.

You guys, things suck currently but we weren’t f$%*ing suck *that* year.

The team picture

In the morning, the Capitals arrived at Capital One Arena to take a team picture. Philip Pritchard brought out the Stanley Cup, Conn Smythe Trophy, and the Prince of Wales Trophy and put it on the ice in front of all the chairs. And then the giggling players made their way out.

After the team photo ended, the Capitals went back into the locker room where beers were drunk.

And then Mumford and Sons’ “I Will Wait” blared over the loudspeaker. Yeah, that’s perfect.
