In what should be the final number news item of the offseason, Capitals forward Brendan Leipsic has chosen to wear number 28 next season.
It is a very enigmatic number.

The number was most famously worn by Alex Semin from 2004 through 2012 after the Russian forward shed his rookie number, 74. During his seven seasons in Washington, Semin was nearly a point-per-game player, scoring 408 points in 469 games. He scored a career-high 40 goals during the 2009-10 season.
According to Hockey Reference, Leipsic will be the 24th player to wear 28 for the Capitals. The most recent player was trade deadline pickup, Jakub Jerabek, who was a member of the Capitals’ Stanley Cup championship team.
