Brendan Leipsic applies for Russian citizenship, makes personal appeal to Vladimir Putin

Former Capitals forward Brendan Leipsic is going the route of Edward Snowden and Steven Seagal.

According to SKA St. Petersburg head coach and vice president, Roman Rotenberg, the Winnipeg native is applying to become a Russian citizen.

Leipsic left the NHL after making misogynistic messages that later became public. The veteran of four NHL seasons made a personal appeal to Russian president Vladimir Putin through a letter.

Brendan Leipsic agrees to two-year deal with KHL CSKA

After reports surfaced Thursday that he was close to signing a deal in the KHL, former Capital Brendan Leipsic agreed to terms on a two-year contract with KHL CSKA Moscow on Friday. Leipsic’s agent, Sergey Isakov of Newport Sports Management, confirmed the news to Sport Express.

According to a report, Leipsic asked his agents to find him a team in Russia.

CSKA was the top team in the Tarasov Division last season before the coronavirus pandemic ended the postseason early. CSKA won the Gargarin Cup in 2018-19 and had made the KHL Finals three out of the last four seasons.

Report: Brendan Leipsic is close to signing a contract with a KHL team

A source tells AllHockey.ru that former Capitals forward Brendan Leipsic is close to signing a deal with one of two potential KHL teams.

“In the near future, the forward should sign a contract with one of the unnamed league clubs,” the story says as translated into English.

75 percent of Capitals fans want Brendan Leipsic released, according to 106.7 The Fan poll

Brendan Leipsic was condemned by both the NHL and the Washington Capitals Wednesday night after leaked screenshots showed vile and misogynistic comments he made in an Instagram group chat with friends. Leipsic deleted his Instagram and released an apology on Twitter later in the night.

According to the Capitals’ radio partner, 106.7 The Fan, 75.9 percent of fans said Leipsic should be released by the team in a poll.

Brendan Leipsic’s brother Jeremy kicked off University of Manitoba’s hockey team for participating in misogynistic group text

Jeremy Leipsic, Brendan Leipsic’s 23-year-old younger brother, has been kicked off the University of Manitoba Bisons men’s hockey team for participating in the same vile group text on Instagram.

The news was reported by the Winnipeg Sun’s Scott Billeck.

Capitals forward Brendan Leipsic made misogynistic comments in a private Instagram conversation that was leaked on Wednesday. Also in the conversation, Leipsic disparaged former and current teammates, including linemates Nic Dowd and Garnet Hathaway. Leipsic was exposed by the Instagram account @Angelszeee2020.

Leipsic has offered an apology of sorts.

Brendan Leipsic does ‘flip the switch’ TikTok challenge

Capitals forward Brendan Leipsic is the latest famous figure to do the ‘flip the switch’ TikTok challenge and it’s wonderful.

Leipsic, eating a box of Ritz crackers upside down, rocks a red zip hoodie and a grey beanie while his girlfriend, Amalia Williamson, rocks a white spaghetti strap shirt and shorts.

The lights go out and the two switch costumes.
