Controversial confrontation: numbers for the morning after

The Washington Capitals and Carolina Hurricanes are headed for a Game Seven. We’re going the distance, folks.

The Canes out-shot the Caps 36 to 25.

  • Oh boy, did the refs for this game have a night. From the “embellishment” call on Dmitry Orlov, to the missed icing and slash on the Canes second goal, and finally the no goal call that pretty much sealed this game. Now, I actually agree with the no goal call, but I’ve also seen many goals like that one count in the past. In fact, Auston Matthews scored one just like it very recently and Mike Knuble sure impeded Tim Thomas on Joel Ward‘s playoff overtime winner in a similar way. What I did not agree with it is how the call was presented to fans worldwide. Bush league.
  • In the end, the Caps were once again just not good enough on the road. They got battered again at five-on-five by the Canes in shot attempts, scoring chances, high danger chances, you name it. Have to find another Game Five type effort at home or it’s goodbye, see ya later to the 2018-19 season.
  • With his 65th career playoff goal, Alex Ovechkin has passed Yvan Cournoyer, Brian Propp, Bobby Smith, and Peter Forsberg for the 22nd most postseason goals in NHL history.
  • The first lead change of this entire series occurred in this game. Unfortunately, it went against the Caps when the Canes made the game 3-2 in the third.
  • Warren Foegele scored again. Try not to puke up your breakfast.
  • Game Seven. We luckily only had to suffer through one of these last postseason, but we’ve become tried and tested in these situations with this team over the years anyway. Lets hope the boys win this thing and then knock Barry and his boys back into mediocrity where they belong.
