Thursday morning, the Washington Post Express released their new cover and it makes me want to furiously knock on wood.
The cover shows two players from the defeated teams in shadows, while a spotlight illuminates a clear path for Alex Ovechkin to a Stanley Cup. The headline states, “Theirs for the Taking,” meaning, with both the favored Pittsburgh Penguins and Tampa Bay Lightning knocked out of the playoffs, the Capitals can win the Cup again.

In the shadows are superstars Sidney Crosby and Lightning winger Nikita Kucherov, both recently eliminated from the playoffs in a sweep.
The Capitals are currently leading their best-of-seven first-round series against the Hurricanes 2-1. The winner needs to “go through the f-cking Island” as Barry Trotz put it earlier in the year. Neither series will be a cakewalk, so, needless to say, I am uncomfortable with the jinxy implications of this cover.
The Washington Post Express continues to have stellar covers to highlight the local hockey team. Recently, they’ve had a cover with double Ovechkin hoping for a back-to-back win, a cover depicting Ovechkin as a super hero, and a cover of Capitals players as characters from The Hangover.
