Kevin Shattenkirk scores first goal as a Capital

It took 16 games, but Kevin Shattenkirk has finally scored for his new team.

And it happened off a crafty new wrinkle to the Caps power play.

Watch as Alex Ovechkin and Shattenkirk change positions at the point. The Leafs are unsure how to alter their coverage, choosing to stay close to Ovechkin and leaving the defenseman wide open in Ovi’s office. Nicklas Backstrom holds the puck just enough as if to fake a shot and then hits Shattenkirk right in the left circle. Easy. Goal.

That’s some trickery and I love it.

Shattenkirk tallied 12 assists in 15 games before finally breaking through this evening.
