The Capitals know their first round playoff opponent, Alex Ovechkin scored his 50th goal, and Braden Holtby tied Martin Brodeur’s single-season wins record. Surely, that should mean that there is nothing on the line during tonight’s last regular season home game against the Anaheim Ducks, right? Wrong.
The Ducks come into Washington looking for two points, as that would secure them the Pacific Division title and the opportunity to face the Nashville Predators in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs. Philipp Grubauer is in the net for the Caps so Holtby will not be going for his record setting 49th win, unless something crazy happens. Again, everyone please just stay healthy.
More liveblog fun below tonight.
Tonight’s team is going to look just a tad different.
So, who's out tonight: Ovechkin, Backstrom, Orpik, Carlson and Beagle.

Game #1000 for Justin “Stick” Williams. Great tribute done by the Caps.

CFTC: Is there a hockey game going on tonight? 0-0 after 1. Brooks Orpik leading all press box attendees in using the most outlets to charge his devices.
A future Hall of Fame member and a man of the people.

Corey Perry makes it 1-0 Ducks on a wrap-around, great feed from Ryan Garbutt.
Another for Anaheim as Santorelli dances around the Caps zone, may have been tipped in front by Ritchie. 2-0 Ducks.
CFTC: This is about what I expected. The Caps aren’t even playing a bad game tonight. Great individual effort for the first goal and a deflection for the second. The possession metrics and the dashboard stats are very even for both teams. This one is quite the snoozer though. 2-0 Ducks through 2 periods. Brooks Orpik has unplugged his phone charger, but is still leading all press box attendees in outlet use. What a talent.

This game is so slow, but my tweet game is lit.
This game is so slow that Frederik Andersen has found time to go swimming @AnaheimDucks

CFTC: The Caps sat the entire team, completely coasted through this game and yet were still competitive against a team that was sorta-kinda playing for real. Possession metrics are still trending up and no one got hurt. Good stuff. Alan May wants Weber to play in the playoffs and that makes me angry. Playoffs are next, are you ready?
Final score: 2-0 Ducks
