I was going to give this story a sexy title like: TJ Oshie Goes Top Shelf, Unstoppable In Shootout, but the Caps shootout victory over the Ducks was a true team victory. For those who stayed up until 1 AM last night, you know what I mean.
TJ Oshie got the Caps scoring started in the first round, bluffing a shot on his forehand before roofing a backhanded shot past Ducks goaltender John Gibson. The shootout marker gave Oshie his fourth goal in five shootout attempts this season.
Braden Holtby followed it up with this sensational glove save on Jakob Silfverberg. It was so flashy, Joe Beninati yelled WUHHHHHHHH into the mic.
Finally, Nicklas Backstrom scored in the bottom of the third round to give the Caps the win. Backstrom deked a few times before patiently sliding the puck through Gibson’s five hole.
The win ended the Ducks’ franchise record 11-game win streak.

It also gave the Caps their 49th victory in 66 games. They now have 102 points with more than a month to go in the season.
