Riley Sutter is known more for his checking and penalty-killing than his offense.

But in a KHL preseason game against Dinamo Minsk, the two-time Calder Cup champion with the Hershey Bears scored a highlight-reel goal for the Shanghai Dragons that took some incredible hand-eye coordination.

After a Dinamo defenseman blocked Sutter’s initial centering pass, the puck ricocheted into the air, where he batted it from almost no angle into the net.

Sutter’s goal on former Bears teammate Zach Fucale came 2:17 into the third period, cutting Dinamo’s lead to 5-4. Shanghai would go on to lose their preseason opener on Thursday, 7-5, as part of the Belbet Minsk Cup.

Three former Hershey Bears players suited up in the game. Both skaters — Sutter and Stanislav Galiev (Dinamo Minsk) — had a point, while Fucale was the winning netminder.

Sutter is entering his second season with the Dragons after leaving North America in the summer of 2025. The Canadian forward posted 21 points (7g, 14a) in 52 games in 2025-26.

He’s one of only four players to remain from last season as the Dragons rebuilt the team over the summer under new team president Ilya Kovalchuk and new general manager Evgeny Artyukhin. Per the KHL, 26 different players left the team over the summer.

Shanghai’s biggest offseason add was former Capitals forward Dmitrij Jaskin, who scored two goals in his preseason debut with the team. Mitch Love, the Capitals’ former assistant under Spencer Carbery, is the team’s head coach.
