Capitals lose preseason opener to Sabres 4-3 (SO) in Spencer Carbery’s coaching debut

The Washington Capitals lost to the Buffalo Sabres 4-3 (SO) in their first preseason game of the new campaign. In front of a half-full Capital One Arena, the Caps debuted a new, more-open, and quicker system under new head coach Spencer Carbery.

The game started sloppy as the matchup came three days into Training Camp for both teams, but the pace and rhythm improved as the action went on.

The Capitals were dealt one setback as veteran, third-pairing defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk was lost late in the third period after taking a shot to his right hand/wrist.

Capitals Rookie Camp at the US Naval Academy in photos

Annapolis, MD — The Washington Capitals held their final day of Rookie Camp at McMullen Hockey Arena on Tuesday.

Top prospects like Ivan Miroshnichenko, Hendrix Lapierre, Vincent Iorio, Alexander Suzdalev, and Andrew Cristall participated in the four-day event, which saw the young stars not only work on their on-ice skills, but team-build off of it at the US Naval Academy.

Capitals sign center prospect, Ryan Hofer, to three-year, entry-level contract

On Wednesday morning, the Washington Capitals announced that they signed Ryan Hofer, a sixth-round pick from the 2022 NHL Draft, to a three-year, entry-level contract that will pay $851,666.67 (NHL) and $82,500 at the AHL level.

Hofer, 20, is in his final year of junior hockey and appears likely to move into the Capitals organization professionally next season.

The Washington Capitals’ final three selections on day two of the 2022 NHL Draft

The Washington Capitals held three picks across the fifth, sixth, and seventh rounds of the 2022 NHL Draft. The selections came at pick numbers 149th, 181st, and 213th respectively.

With the picks, the Caps added two more forwards and one more defenseman. They come away from Montreal with a total haul that features five forwards and two defensemen.
