Tom Wilson knows ‘for a fact’ that Christian Djoos drove his car into a pole at MedStar Capitals Iceplex

Christian Djoos started his career as a member of the Washington Capitals with quite a bang. The 2012 seventh-round pick defied the odds and not only made his debut with the Caps during the 2017-18 season but also played in almost every single playoff game during the team’s run to the Stanley Cup.

According to Tom Wilson’s recent interview with Hot 99.5’s Your Morning Show, Djoos also made a bang that season with his car at the Capitals’ training facility.

Caps players choose their favorite books for a Little Free Library book-sharing box at MedStar Capitals Iceplex

Playing hockey and reading books may not be synonymous with each other, but the Washington Capitals are trying to change that.

On Monday, the Capitals announced that they launched a Little Free Library book-sharing box in the lobby at MedStar Capitals Iceplex to provide book access to all Caps fans and encourage more reading.

The book-sharing box includes various hockey-related titles as well as books written by Capitals alumni and media. A dozen Capitals players also contributed the most recent book they’ve read either by themselves or out loud to a family member.

MedStar Capitals Iceplex will host NHLPA Rookie Showcase, Hendrix Lapierre to participate

The National Hockey League Players’ Association will brings its 12th annual Rookie Showcase to MedStar Capitals IcePlex. The Capitals’ practice facility in Arlington will host more than 30 prospects and rookies from around the league on September 6.

The lone Caps player representative will be Hendrix Lapierre. He’ll join a group that includes the last two number one overall draft selections, Juraj Slafkovsky and Owen Power.

Nicklas Backstrom signs first N1KY apple for fan: ‘You didn’t throw it!’

The Washington Capitals gave away a limited amount of squishy N1KY apples during its game against the New Jersey Devils on March 26. The promotional giveaway celebrated Nicklas Backstrom hitting the 1000 point milestone earlier in the month.

The special keepsake, however, became a tool of celebration in the third period when Backstrom scored. A portion of Capitals fans threw the apples on the ice forcing a partial stoppage of the game. Later in the locker room, Capitals players celebrated their W by pelting Backstrom with the fake fruit. Since then, some of the N1KY apples have popped up on resale sites like Mercari and eBay generally selling for $40-$60 each.

Friday, after Capitals practice, Backstrom was asked to sign one of the apples by a Capitals fan.

MedStar Capitals Iceplex closes early after pro-Trump mob storms U.S. Capitol

Washington DC and its surrounding areas are under a 6 PM curfew after President Trump incited his supporters to commit violence at the United States Capitol Building on Wednesday. Scores of the president’s supporters broke into the Capitol while Congress attempted to certify President-elect Joe Biden’s electoral victory. Senate and House of Representative members were forced to evacuate and wear gas masks as rioters broke into offices and the halls of the House. One person was shot and later died during the violence.

President-elect Biden condemned the attack and said, “it’s not protest, it’s insurrection.”

Just a few miles away, MedStar Capitals Iceplex closed its doors early in respect of a 6 PM curfew issued by Virginia Governor Ralph Northam in Arlington and Alexandria. A State of Emergency was also issued in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Capitals Reverse Retro jerseys sold out online in record time on Tuesday. Here are the best places to buy moving forward.

At 9:04 AM Tuesday, the Washington Capitals’ highly sought out Reverse Retro jerseys hit the web on shop.nhl.com and the Monumental Sports & Entertainment online store. Pictures of the jersey’s design, featuring the Screaming Eagle on the crest, were released by the team 15 days prior. For years, the Screaming Eagle logo, which was first introduced in 1995 and retired in 2007, had grown in popularity among fans as it reminded many of Alex Ovechkin’s rookie season and the team’s first Stanley Cup Final appearance in 1998.

Minutes into the online sale, Alex Ovechkin’s authentic Reverse Retro jersey, which was being sold for $224.99 each, sold out to the shock of many. Some readers reported buying the jersey only to have the sale reversed minutes later.

The rest of the stock fell like dominoes. Ovi’s replica jersey sold out. And at some point near the top of the hour, the team’s blank authentic Reverse Retro jersey was bought up by Capitals fans.

So what happened?

Henrik Lundqvist visits MedStar Capitals Iceplex, National Mall during weekend trip to DC

Henrik Lundqvist made his first visit to Washington DC since signing with the Capitals as an unrestricted free agent. Lundqvist posted several photos from the team’s practice facility, MedStar Capitals Iceplex, as well as the National Mall.

“Roadtrip,” Lundqvist wrote. “Checking out our new surroundings and we LIKE it😎”

MedStar Capitals Iceplex is planning to enter Phase 2 this weekend

Washington Capitals players are one step closer to getting back on the ice in DC.

Tuesday afternoon, MedStar Capitals Iceplex announced to their followers that, “We are thrilled to announce we are planning on entering Phase 2 this weekend!”

New ice laid down at MedStar Capitals Iceplex

MedStar Capitals Iceplex, the Washington Capitals’ practice facility, has been closed to the public since March 24 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

But Thursday, six members of the staff relaid the ice and re-painted the rink on the Capitals side. It’s another sign that hockey may be back soon.

“We don’t know when we will be allowed to reopen for skating activities but until then…,” the facility wrote on social media.

Over the last two days, the MCI Facebook has shared the ice’s progress via time-lapses.
