Connor McMichael scores sixth hat trick of the season, has 37 goals in 36 games

Connor McMichael’s ridiculous season continues.

After winning gold with Team Canada at the World Junior Championship, the Capitals’ 2019 first-round pick returned to the OHL London Knights and has scored three hat tricks in the month of January – in only nine games.

McMichael now has six hat tricks total this season after scoring three times in London’s 7-4 victory over the Windsor Spitfires, Friday.

McMichael turned 19 on January 15.

Connor McMichael grabs his fifth OHL hat trick of the season in just his 32nd game

Connor McMichael is at it again, folks. The Caps 2019 first-round pick, WJC gold medal winner with Canada, and London Knights superstar has potted three more goals against the Erie Otters for his fifth hat trick of the season.

His four-point night overall in his 32nd game this season has him one point shy of tying his prior OHL career-high in points of 72, set last season in 67 games.

Connor McMichael named OHL player of the week for second time this season

Caps prospect Connor McMichael continues his hot start in the OHL.

The London Knights forward scored four goals and four assists over the weekend, earning him the OHL’s ‘On the Run’ Player of the Week title for the second time this season.

Connor McMichael named OHL player of the week for first time in his career

Connor McMichael’s first week back in the OHL was a bonkers one. After being cut by the Capitals in training camp, McMichael scored 7 goals and notch 10 points in the first four games of the season, including a hat trick and five points Saturday night.

Monday, the OHL named McMichael their player of the week.

Connor McMichael scores hat trick in fourth game back with London Knights, leads OHL in goals

Capitals 2019 first-round pick, Connor McMichael, has been tearing it up in the OHL since being cut from Training Camp.

McMichael scored a hat trick for the London Knights in their game Saturday against the Hamilton Bulldogs. McMichael’s hatty helped lead the Knights to a 7-3 victory.

The 18-year-old center now leads the OHL in goals scored after scoring seven in his first four games.

Aliaksei Protas and Connor McMichael score in first game back with junior teams

On Thursday, the Washington Capitals made their first round of roster cuts from Training Camp. Amongst the players cut were Aliaksei Protas and Connor McMichael, both forwards drafted by the Capitals in 2019 who each put up an impressive performance in Development Camp, the Prospect Showcase, and the preseason. McMichael and Protas were loaned back to their respective junior teams; the London Knights of the OHL for McMichael and the WHL’s Prince Albert Raiders for Protas.

That offensive momentum followed them to the WHL and OHL, as both players scored goals in their first games after returning to the junior league.

Tom Wilson Scores Playoff Hat Trick Against Dale Hunter’s London Knights

Washington Capitals first-round pick Tom Wilson put up another impressive playoff performance. In game two against regular-season champions the London Knights, Wilson scored three goals and added an assist (unofficially as of right now) as his team won 4-3 in double overtime.

Potential 2013 first-rounder Bo Horvat opened the scoring after winning a puck battle in the corner, giving the Knights a 1-0 lead that they preserved until the end of the first period. Wilson tied the game in the second, holding his stick behind his back to score a wild deflection goal.

For Dale Hunter, Draw of Family, Hockey Empire Was Too Great

Dale Hunter played 872 games as a Washington Capitals player. He lasted just 74 behind the team’s bench.

“When I retired as a hockey player I had to retire because I was not that good anymore,” Hunter said with a laugh at his final press conference at Kettler Capitals Iceplex. “But this was a tough decision.”

Hunter’s choice was not easy to make. But the reasons that ultimately lead him to make the determination seem clear. The 51-year-old former Caps captain is heading back to London, Ontario to rejoin his family and his empire. There, he co-owns the OHL’s London Knights with his brother Mark. The siblings run everything. Before taking over as Washington’s bench boss, he served as the junior club’s general manager and head coach, positions that his brother assumed in November. The team finished this season with a 49-18-1 record, winning the OHL championship. They now have a chance to take home the biggest prize in juniors, the Memorial Cup.

“I’m going home,” Hunter said Monday. “I’ve got a good thing going at home there and I’ll stay there.”
