Garnet Hathaway fined for fighting Lightning’s Pat Maroon during on-ice official review

Garnet Hathaway’s wallet will be hurting a little on Saturday after the NHL docked the fourth-line winger $4,054.05 for what the league is calling unsportsmanlike conduct.

Hathaway got into a fight with Tampa Bay Lightning forward Pat Maroon while the on-ice officials were at the penalty box reviewing Nicolas Aube-Kubel’s five-minute major for an illegal check to the head. Both players were fined the maximum allowable under the current CBA.

Evgeny Kuznetsov fined $5,000 for high-sticking Florida’s Noel Acciari in post-whistle scrum

Evgeny Kuznetsov’s wallet took a bit of a hit on Sunday as NHL Player Safety announced that the talented center has been fined $5,000, the maximum allowable under the collective bargaining agreement, for high-sticking Florida’s Noel Acciari.

The play in question occurred with 3:57 remaining in the first period just after Ilya Samsonov had frozen the puck after making a save on Patric Hornqvist. Kuzy was not penalized for the infraction during the game.

Taylor Hall only fined by NHL DoPS for sucker punch that injured Toronto’s Ilya Lyubushkin

Tuesday night saw Boston Bruins forward Taylor Hall do his best WWE impression after taking a hit from Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Ilya Lyubushkin. Hall responded to the hit with a sucker punch from behind that connected flush on the Russian defenseman’s jaw before also shoving him to the ice.

Lyubushkin was injured on the play and did not return to the game. Hall was only assessed a minor penalty for roughing and it turns out that those two minutes in the box will be the only time he’ll miss for his actions.

Garnet Hathaway fined $2,000 for diving/embellishment in games against Rangers and Hurricanes

Garnet Hathaway’s wallet will be ever-so-slightly lighter after the NHL docked the fourth line forward $2,000 for playing with some extra mustard.

According to the NHL, Hathaway’s diving/embellishment in recent games against the New York Rangers and Carolina Hurricanes violated Rule 64. The league now considers Hathaway a player who “repeatedly dive[s] and embellish[es] in an attempt to draw penalties.”

Rod Brind’Amour fined for ‘inappropriate conduct’ during Capitals game

Rod Brind’Amour will be forced to Rod Spend’SomeMore after his “inappropriate conduct” during Sunday’s Capitals game.

The Hurricanes head coach was apoplectic late in the third period after officials made a textbook slashing call on Sebastian Aho that gave the Capitals a 5-on-3 power play.

Aho broke Aliaksei Protas’s stick in half at the blue line near the benches. Dmitry Orlov scored on the resulting power play to give the Capitals a 3-2 lead with 2:55 remaining.

Derick Brassard fined by NHL Player Safety for punching Garnet Hathaway while on Flyers’ bench

The NHL Department of Player Safety has fined Derick Brassard $2,000 for unsportsmanlike actions against the Capitals’ Garnet Hathaway.

Brassard socked Hathaway in the face while the former was still firmly on the Flyers’ bench as a scrum ensued nearby on the ice.

Tom Wilson fined, not suspended by DoPS after role in line brawl during Rangers game

Tom Wilson will not be suspended.

The Department of Player Safety on Tuesday announced that the Capitals forward has been fined $5,000, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for roughing. Wilson was given 14 minutes in penalty minutes in total for his role in a second-period line brawl: a 10-minute misconduct and a four-minute double-minor for roughing.

NHL fines Alex Ovechkin $5,000 for ‘spearing’ Trent Frederic 🥜

The NHL’s Department of Player Safety announced a fine to its biggest superstar after NHL officials arguably failed to protect him in a game.

Alex Ovechkin was fined $5,000 for what DoPS is terming as “spearing.” To be clear, Ovechkin hit Bruins forward Trent Frederic as hard as he could in the scrotum with his hockey stick.

NHL fines John Tortorella for walking out of elimination press conference after two questions

John Tortorella is back in the news for being mad during a press conference again.

After the Blue Jackets lost to the Lightning 5-4 in overtime and were eliminated from the playoffs, Torts walked out of his postgame press conference after only two questions. That was enough to warrant NHL discipline.

Michal Kempny fined for cross-checking Cedric Paquette in the face

Monday afternoon, the NHL’s Department of Player Safety announced that Capitals defenseman Michal Kempny was being fined $2,419.35 for cross-checking Cedric Paquette right in the kisser.
