The Washington Capitals’ first preseason game on their schedule took place Sunday afternoon. The home team put out a mostly prospect-filled lineup to take on the Buffalo Sabres.
There was some brotherly love involved in the matchup even though the Caps played the Sabres, not the Flyers. Defense prospect Dru Krebs lined up on the other side of his brother, Peyton Krebs.

The Washington Capitals announced on Thursday that they have extended bona fide contract offers to prospects Chase Clark, Dru Krebs, and Joaquim Lemay. All three players were selected by the Caps in the 2021 NHL Draft.
According to the NHL’s collective bargaining agreement, a bona fide offer is a standard player contract that starts at the beginning of the next league season and offers at least league minimum salary. The offer is open to the player for a minimum of 30 days after receipt. Its purpose is to extend the team’s claim to the player’s rights.

The Hershey Bears announced on Wednesday that they have signed Capitals prospects Dru Krebs, Benton Maass, and Garin Bjorklund to amateur tryout agreements which will allow them to finish this season in the AHL.
They will join goaltending prospect Clay Stevenson, who signed his own amateur tryout deal with the Bears two weeks ago after agreeing to a two-year entry-level deal with the Caps in late March.

Washington Capitals head coach Peter Laviolette spoke about narrowing the roster earlier in the day. Those decisions were announced Tuesday afternoon.
Five players have been sent back to their respective teams. The transactions leave the current roster at a total of 49 — 44 skaters and five goaltenders.

The Washington Capitals selected defenseman Dru Krebs with the 176th pick in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. Krebs plays for the Medicine Hat Tigers of the WHL and is the fourth defensemen picked up by the Caps so far in this draft.
That makes ten players from the WHL in the last four Caps draft classes.
