Former Capitals defenseman Nate Schmidt has yet to hoist the Stanley Cup in his career but on Wednesday he accomplished basically the next best thing.
Schmidt’s TRIA team was crowned champion of the 2022 Da Beauty League. Schmidt hoisted the distinguished John Scott Cup, which is a beer keg spraypainted as a trophy.

It might be just a summer league game, but Shane Gersich scored one of the most beautiful goals of his career Wednesday night.
In Da Beauty League action, Gersich did the No-Move Move made famous by NHL MVP Nikita Kucherov, sliding the puck through the goaltender’s five-hole while faking a deke.
It might be the middle of July, but hockey’s back for many NHL players with Minnesota roots.
Wednesday night, the fourth year of Da Beauty League will begin with three games at Braemar Arena in Edina, Minnesota.
Three Capitals players will be participating in the league this year.
Shane Gersich has been turning heads in Da Beauty League this offseason on Team Velocity, racking up 16 points, best for 11th in league scoring.
On Sunday, Gersich took some time to snap a photo with, inarguably, two of the greatest hockey players on the planet Earth, Olly Postanin and Jacob Ardown, the creators of On the Bench.
Shane Gersich is already in full swing of his summer training. The Capitals rookie is participating in Minnesota’s Da Beauty League for the second consecutive year, joining Team Velocity.
On Wednesday, Gersich scored off a breakaway on Utah Grizzlies’ Brandon Wildung.
We can only hope to see more of these moves next season.

The Capitals may not have won the Stanley Cup in 2017, but TJ Oshie and Taylor Chorney are now champions of their respective summer league.
During Da Beauty League championship game Wednesday night, Oshie and Chorney’s Team RBC defeated Travis Boyd’s Team Velocity 4-2. Oshie, in his second Da Beauty League game, scored the game-winning goal. It was his second goal of the tournament.
On Monday, Da Beauty League began their postseason as Capitals forward TJ Oshie made his summer league debut.
But in-between the two playoff games, Da Beauty League held a Unified Showcase game, where the league’s NHL players and prospects suited up with Minnesota Special Hockey players.
The event allowed Vancouver Canucks forward Brock Boeser to square off against his 22-year-old sister Jessica Boeser, who plays for the Minnesota Special Hockey’s Burnsville Rams.
The Canucks first-round pick totally got outplayed.

Monday night, Capitals forward and Warroad, Minnesota-native TJ Oshie made his summer league debut in Da Beauty League.
Oshie paid instant dividends for Taylor Chorney’s Team RBC, scoring a goal and tallying a beautiful assist in the team’s 8-7 win. RBC will play Team Velocity in the championship game Wednesday.

A few days after Da Beauty League took team photos, real beauty TJ Oshie has joined the ranks.
Oshie, who spent his high school years in Warroad, Minnesota, joins in time for three playoff games (two semi-finals and the championship game) beginning tonight.

This summer in Minnesota, several dozen NHL players are participating in an organized summer league called Da Beauty League.
Current and former Capitals Taylor Chorney, Nate Schmidt, Shane Gersich, Aaron Ness, Travis Boyd, and Matt Hendricks are dispersed amongst the league’s six teams which includes other NHL players and prospects.
While Chorney has lit up the scoreboard and Schmidt has played in his old Capitals gear, other familiar names have been having productive summers getting ready for the upcoming season.
On Tuesday, after former NHL All-Star Game MVP and Da Beauty League commissioner John Scott finally arrived, the league got everyone together for official team photos.
They are awesome.
