The Charlotte Checkers are letting each player pick an individual goal song

In the NHL, a team’s goal song is a collective, unifying force for a fan base. From the Chicago Blackhawks use of The Fratellis’ Chelsea Dagger to the Capitals recent adoption of Oney Lorcan’s Combative entrance theme, goal songs set the tone of what to expect when a team scores a goal.

This season, the AHL’s Charlotte Checkers are copying MLB by letting each player pick their own goal song. The results are A+.

A Charlotte Checkers fan reminisces on the longest game in AHL history: a 146-minute, five-overtime classic

On Wednesday, the Charlotte Checkers and Lehigh Valley Phantoms played Game Four of their Calder Cup clash at Bojangles’ Coliseum. Five overtime periods, and six hours later, Alex Krushelnyski scored for the Phantoms, ending the longest game in the American Hockey League’s 82-year history.

The Charlotte Checkers played a game in an empty arena after 4 inches of snow shut down the city

A night after winning 3-0 in front of a sold-out crowd, the Charlotte Checkers played the Bridgeport Sound Tigers in an empty arena.

Due to an impending snowstorm that brought four inches of snow to the Charlotte area, the Checkers moved their game up to 5 PM. The organization also decided to close the doors of Bojangles’ Coliseum as North Carolina was put under a state of emergency.

Cam Newton attends Charlotte Checkers-Hershey Bears game

Days after randomly meeting Kenny G, the Hershey Bears played in front of one of the most famous football players in the NFL.

Thursday night, Cam Newton, the 2015 NFL MVP, was in the house for Carolina Football Night at Bojangles’ Coliseum.

The Checkers wore special Cam Newton inspired jerseys which were auctioned off after the game.

Hershey Advances To The AHL’s Eastern Conference Finals

Tonight, the Hershey Bears rallied to win 5-4 in OT and swept the Albany River Rats in their second round series four games to none. With the thrilling victory, the Bears now advance to the 2010 Eastern Conference Finals for the fourth time in five years! HERSHEY ~~RUSSIAN~~ MACHINE NEVER BREAKS!

Left Wing Chris Bourque accumulated a third of his 15 total points in the playoffs tonight, as he scored or assisted on every Bears goal. He finished the game with 2 goals, 3 assists and 5 points. Bourque scored at 8:23 in the first period and then again 59 seconds into the second frame. However, the River Rats answered each of Bourque’s talleys with two goals of their own, and entered the third with a commanding 4-2 lead.
