In the NHL, a team’s goal song is a collective, unifying force for a fan base. From the Chicago Blackhawks use of The Fratellis’ Chelsea Dagger to the Capitals recent adoption of Oney Lorcan’s Combative entrance theme, goal songs set the tone of what to expect when a team scores a goal.
This season, the AHL’s Charlotte Checkers are copying MLB by letting each player pick their own goal song. The results are A+.
We’re trying something new. Starting with this Thursday’s home game, we’re letting the players pick their own individual goal songs!

The most popular artist among the team was Post Malone. Andrew Poturalski chose Psycho and Roland McKeown picked Candy Paint.

While country, hip-hop, and a lot of throwback rock songs make frequent appearances, Josh Wesley, a proclaimed Disney fan, chose He’s a Pirate from the Pirates of the Carribean movie franchise.

In an absolute power move, Julien Gauthier comes out swinging with It’s Raining Men by the Weather Girls.

My personal favorite is captain Patrick Brown’s choice of Right Above It by Lil Wayne, which is one of the best pump up songs in the game.

This isn’t the first time a team has used individualized goal songs. In Tampa, Tyler Johnson gets Johnny B. Goode by Chuck Berry while the rest of the team gets Goons (Baby, I Need It All) by Mona.
The Vancouver Canucks also experimented with individual goal songs in 2016, and provided fans with a Spotify playlist containing all the players picks.
The Checkers are taking after their NHL affiliate and are making goal songs way more fun.
