Predators beat Penguins in Game Three after scoring five unanswered goals

Maybe PK Subban should make guarantees more often.

Ahead of Game Three, the former Norris Trophy winning defenseman told the media that “there’s no question, we’re going to win the next game.” The quote seemed frivolous considering the Predators were down 2-0 in the series and outscored 9-4 in their previous two Stanley Cup Final games.

Except it worked. Saturday night, riding the momentum of a hot Nashville crowd, the Predators destroyed the Penguins 5-1.

Martina McBride sings national anthem before first ever Stanley Cup Final game in Nashville

Saturday night, the Nashville Predators continued their tradition of having a country music superstar sing the national anthem.

Martina McBride, a four-time Country Music Association Award (CMA) Female Vocalist of the Year, sung the Star-Spangled Banner ahead of Game Three. It was the Predators first ever Stanley Cup Final game in Nashville.

Despite going 37 minutes without a shot, Penguins take Game One of Stanley Cup Final

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Penguins won the opening game of the Stanley Cup Final on Monday with a dominating performance over the Nashville Predators. They controlled play almost the whole night, going up 3-0 before the first period was over. The Predators managed a power play goal midway through the second frame, but that was all they got. It’s clear Pittsburgh is heading for a quick series win after finishing off Nashville 5-3 in Game One.

“We got a favorable result tonight,” Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan said after the game.

But there is one small problem: the first paragraph is a lie, save for the score.

Penguins take Game One of Stanley Cup Final after three-goal first period

Nashville Predators defenseman and joy of the National Hockey League, PK Subban, scored the first goal of the 2017 Stanley Cup Final, rifling a shot past Matt Murray’s seven hole 7:13 into the first period.

It would not count. The Predators struggled thereafter, watching the Penguins score three unanswered first period goals. The Penguins would hold on to win 5-3. Pittsburgh now leads Nashville in the Stanley Cup Final one game to none.

Discarding its normal montage treatment, HNIC previewed the final from the Stanley Cup’s point of view. It was very good.

Forsberg vs. Crosby: Here’s the schedule for the 2017 Stanley Cup Final

The 2016-17 season is mercifully almost over and will finish with either the Nashville Predators or the Pittsburgh Penguins as champions.

For Caps fans, that means that either former DC draft pick Filip Forsberg will raise the cup or the team’s biggest rival will win their third Stanley Cup of the Crosby and Malkin era.

Ryan Johansen to miss remainder of playoffs after having emergency thigh surgery

The Predators can’t seem to catch a break with playoff injuries. Friday afternoon, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported that Ryan Johansen will miss the remainder of the playoffs after undergoing emergency thigh surgery.

Johansen suffered the injury during the Predators’ Game Four overtime loss. He will be out of action for the next two or three months.

Capitals fans deserve better, but that’s not how sports work

The Pittsburgh Penguins’ elimination of the Caps marked the second straight year that Washington finished with the league’s best regular-season record but failed to advance beyond the second round.
