The Washington Capitals completed their season series sweep of the New Jersey Devils after a 5-4 effort on Easter Sunday. The victory wrapped up all 16 available points the Caps could take from the Devs in 2021.
The Devils outshot the Caps 39 to 19 and out-attempted them at five-on-five 54 to 29.

The Washington Capitals met with the New Jersey Devils for the final time this season, looking to sweep all eight scheduled matchups. Could the Devs stem the embarrassment?
Travis Zajac was left wide open in the slot and made no mistake to open the scoring. TJ Oshie went hard to the cage and finished deftly over the shoulder of Blackwood to tie the game. Conor Sheary got some puck luck to give the Caps their first lead. Alex Ovechkin slammed home a loose puck on a power play to extend the lead.
Yegor Sharangovich shot through a screen to bring the Devils back into the game. Carl Hagelin struck shorthanded after Garnet Hathaway set him up splendidly. Evgeny Kuznetsov slid home the Caps fifth goal off a slick feed from Ovechkin. Jesper Bratt capitalized on some nonsense behind the Caps net to cut the deficit to two again. Travis Zajac got their fourth.

New Jersey Devils defenseman Damon Severson lost his s*&^ after Ilya Samsonov made his flashiest save of the season late in the second period.
Sammy’s miracle glove save kept the Capitals in the lead 3-2.
Don’t poke the bear or you will feel its wrath.
Alex Ovechkin was accidentally high-sticked in the face by Devils defenseman Dmitry Kulikov in the second period. After checking to see if his remaining chiclets were still there (they were), Ovechkin took to the ice for the Capitals power play.
He scored 11 seconds later.

Jakub Vrana, the Capitals’ second-leading goal scorer at even-strength (10 goals), will sit again against the New Jersey Devils per head coach Peter Laviolette.
Laviolette announced the lineup decision during his press conference with reporters two hours before puck drop.
