On the return of the Beags to DC, the Caps were triumphant over his Vancouver Canucks team 3-2 and gained some needed ground in the NHL’s Metropolitan Division by doing so. Time to string some wins together, boys.
The Canucks out-shot the Caps 32 to 31, but were out-attempted at five-on-five 45 to 43.

An emotional Jay Beagle spoke to reporters and thanked Caps fans after the Vancouver Canucks lost to Washington 3-2 Tuesday. The game marked Beagle’s first in DC since signing with Vancouver over the summer.
Beagle was honored during the game with a powerful tribute video that inspired a hug from Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin. Several teammates thanked Beagle for his time in Washington throughout the night.
“It was weird, obviously, strange being on the other side against him,” Capitals goaltender Braden Holtby said. “I’ve played so much with him. Those guys, [I] hope they know how lucky they are to have him on their team.”
Beagle, who was tearing up in the postgame interview, said the tribute video was difficult to get past and that it was “tough” to play his former team in the city that was his home for over eight years.
He also was very emotional about the loud ovations he received and the hundreds of signs fans held up during warmups.
The Caps handled the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday night, recording a badly needed win and welcoming home a beloved fan fave.
TJ Oshie forced a turnover then scored on a rebound to open scoring in the first period. The second went scoreless, which is the word we use when no one scores even if the game has a score, which obviously it did, it was 1-0 Caps. Brett Connolly crashed the net in the third period to get his first goal in 13 games, but Markus Granlund replied by catching a nice pass from Antoine Roussel to get the Canucks on the board a couple minutes later. Jakub Vrana put the Nucks back in their two-goal hole with a weird, weird goal. Elias Pettersson got a goal with the Nucks net empty, but it was over.

Jay Beagle had this day circled on his calendar. February 5 marked his first return to Washington, DC since signing as a free agent with the Vancouver Canucks over the summer.
To honor his return, the Capitals aired a tribute video on the jumbotron.
There wasn’t a dry eye in the house.

For the first time since signing as a free agent with the Vancouver Canucks, Jay Beagle returned to Washington on Tuesday night to take on his former teammates.
After Beagle admitted that he never gets signs dedicated to him at warmups, Capitals fans did what they do best, and showed him a wealth of love upon his return.
As Beagle took to Capital One ice, he was visibly moved by the reaction from Caps fans, and stopped to take in every poster. He was treated to loud applause as he made his way back to the locker room, the last player off the ice, and even gave some sticks to two fans as he left.

The Capitals continue their long homestand while playing host to the Vancouver Canucks this evening. The Capitals have won seven out of their last ten games against the Canucks, so here’s hoping they can keep the positive edge going. The biggest thing to expect is a good emotional moment over Jay Beagle being back at Capital One Arena.

The happiest and hardest-working man in hockey, Jay Beagle, spoke with Jeff Marek and Elliotte Friedman on their 31 Thoughts podcast in January about feedback from fans before games.
“I like to watch the signs in warmups, I love it,” Beagle said. “They’re never about me, so I’m always just like, ‘who’s got the best one today?'”
Two hockey fans who heard the podcast decided to make Beagle the signs he deserves. His reaction was adorable. Now, RMNB is doing the same, as a celebration of Beagle’s first return to Capital One Arena Tuesday since he helped the team win its first Stanley Cup.
