The happiest and hardest-working man in hockey, Jay Beagle, spoke with Jeff Marek and Elliotte Friedman on their 31 Thoughts podcast in January about feedback from fans before games.
“I like to watch the signs in warmups, I love it,” Beagle said. “They’re never about me, so I’m always just like, ‘who’s got the best one today?'”
Two hockey fans who heard the podcast decided to make Beagle the signs he deserves. His reaction was adorable. Now, RMNB is doing the same, as a celebration of Beagle’s first return to Capital One Arena Tuesday since he helped the team win its first Stanley Cup.
Amanda and Mike are the two heroes creative hockey fans who got the ball rolling. They didn’t have a lot of time, so they drew them in Sharpie on the inside of Trader Joe’s paper grocery bags–a straightforward and practical solution which Jay Beagle would heartily approve of.

The signs looked awesome. Amanda’s read “Jay Beagle #83, this sign is for you,” while Mike’s referenced Beagle’s tenuous relationship with technology. “#83 faster than an iPhone 1.”
. Hey @FriedgeHNIC and @JeffMarek : @aminul7 heard on 31 thoughts that Jay Beagle never gets signs during warm-ups. So we’re here to help! #VANvsCOL #NHL @hockeynight @Canucks #HNIC pic.twitter.com/Bzf4SD2tQH

Jay Beagle “got a chuckle” out of it. “I wasn’t even sure if he saw them at first,” Mike said, “but about halfway through warmup he smacked his stick on the boards on his way by. A couple minutes later he came close to read the sign I was holding. He chuckled and said/mouthed ‘that’s pretty good’ or something to that effect.”

“Amanda is awesome for putting up with my craziness,” Mike added, “like getting to the rink an hour before puck drop so we can get good seats for warmup, so a player can see a couple of homemade signs!”
Designed by Cara Bahniuk, we illustrated the classic beagle.JPG. “Welcome home, Beagle,” the sign reads. “Forever a Capital” is put inside a heart.

RMNB made signs for Nate Schmidt when he returned to Capital One Arena last season as a member of the Vegas Golden Knights and it meant a lot to him.
Let’s do the same for Beags!
