Capitals Development Camp to be held from June 25-29

It’s been a long couple months without Caps hockey, but fret not, because the Capitals’ annual Development Camp will soon be upon us to fill our summer hockey fix. The Caps announced on Thursday morning the dates for Development Camp and the fan events that accompany it.

The Caps’ 2019 Development Camp will be help from June 25-29 at Medstar Capitals Iceplex. All on-ice events are free and open to the public to spectate. While full details, including the full schedule and roster, are still TBA, a scrimmage is set for Saturday, June 29 at 10 am, with additional children’s activities also scheduled for that day.

The team will also be hosting its public equipment sale on Tuesday, June 25, from 8:15-9:30 pm.

Donate blood with the Caps on July 27 and receive Nick Jensen bobblehead

The Capitals announced on Tuesday morning that their summer blood drive will be held on July from 7AM to 5PM at MedStar Capitals Iceplex.

Fans who donate will receive a t-shirt and a bobblehead of trade deadline acquisition Nick Jensen.

A comic for the doubters who never believed Alex Ovechkin would win a Stanley Cup

As the anniversary of the Capitals’ first-ever Stanley Cup approached, I wanted to do some kind of artwork or comic to reflect on what I consider one of the best summers of my life. I thought about all the biggest moments that came to mind when I looked back on June 7, 2018: sobbing face down on the living room carpet when the clock hit zero, staying up until 3 am with my mother watching all the festivities both in Vegas and in downtown DC, and all the congratulatory words from people I hadn’t heard from in years.

But one specific moment in my mind kept replaying over and over in my head: the banner raising on Opening Night and the conversation I had with a gentleman who sits to my right at Capital One Arena.

Capitals Alumni to host third annual Bourbon and Cigar Fundraiser June 24

The Washington Capitals announced on Wednesday morning that their alumni association would be hosting its Bourbon & Cigar Fundraiser event for the third consecutive year on June 24 at Top of the Town in Arlington, VA. The event runs from 7-10 pm and features an open bar, fancy hors d’oeuvres, a live auction, and Caps Alumni to mingle with. The list of participating alumni is still TBA, but past years have featured players such as Peter Bondra, Olie Kolzig, Alan May, and Mike Knuble.

Hershey Bears sign goaltender Logan Thompson to one year AHL contract

Tuesday afternoon the Hershey Bears announced that they had signed Logan Thompson to a one-year AHL contract for the 2019-20 season.

The Canadian goaltender has previously participated with the Capitals organization in their Development Camp and Rookie Tournament in 2018.

The NHL’s newest commercial, ‘Feel,’ will definitely hit you right in the feels

With the Conference Finals starting Thursday night, the NHL is premiering its newest commercial, titled “Feel”, and as the title says, you truly will get hit with ALL THE FEELS after watching it.

Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin is featured.

Capitals to host Game Four watch party at Capital One Arena

During the Capitals’ historic 2018 Stanley Cup run, one of the most popular events outside of the games themselves were the viewing parties that the team hosted at Capital One Arena when the Caps were on the road. Tickets for the championship-deciding Game 5 in Vegas sold out in minutes and crashed Ticketmaster.

On Wednesday morning the team announced that the viewing parties will return to Capital One Arena, starting Thursday night as the Caps take on the Hurricanes in Game Four of their playoff series. Doors will open at 6:30, with the game beginning at 7 pm.

Capitals’ Better Halves to auction off versions of their playoffs blazers for charity

Prior to the start of the Capitals’ first round playoff matchup against Carolina, the players’ wives and girlfriends debuted their newest customized jackets that they have been rocking in support of the Capitals at home games. The blazers also sported custom pins of their significant other’s face on the lapel.

On Monday afternoon the Capitals’ Better Halves announced that due to the overwhelming response to the jackets, a limited number of bundles featuring similar jackets will be auctioned off, with proceeds benefiting Safe Shores, an organization which “provides intervention, hope and healing for children and families affected by abuse, trauma and violence in the District of Columbia, and prevents child abuse through education and training.”

Traffic advisory: Cherry Blossom Parade to complicate travel ahead of Game Two

On Saturday, April 13, the Washington Capitals will face off in Game Two of their Eastern Conference Quarterfinal series with the Carolina Hurricanes at 3 pm.

On the same afternoon, the Cherry Blossom Parade and Emancipation Day Celebrations will be taking place in the District as well. The Capitals are advising fans attending the game to be aware of parking and traffic restrictions around Capital One Arena.
